The Trinity Boxing team finished third in the 47th L.V Jayaweera All Island Boxing Tournament 2022. This year’s event was held at St. Sylvester’s College in Kandy, with 450 boxers from 98 schools around the country competing in the tournament.
The team was placed 2nd at the same tournament held in 2019.
Trinity entered the meet with a full team of Seven boxers. This year, due to the high number of boxers each participant had 5 bouts to complete. Usually this is limited to 4 bouts.
All boxers from the Trinity team managed to win their first round of bouts on day one, 12 June 2022.
By the end of day two (13 June 2022) we had six boxers still in the game which was the highest number of participants along with a few other schools at that time.
Six boxers from Trinity Boxing Team managed to enter the quarter finals and out of them three boxers reached the semi-finals.
The team secured 2 Gold medals and a Bronze medal during the tournament.
The Gold medals were won by:
- Ronal Weerasekara ( 39 – 41Kg)
- Salman Faris ( 46 – 48Kg)
The Bronze medal was won by:
- Parakrama Sooriyabandara ( 50 – 52Kg)
Preliminary round winners:
- Zenel Zakeer ( 35 – 37Kg)
- Nethul Hulangamuwa ( 48 – 50kg)
- Hirun Kularathne ( 54 – 56Kg)
- Malindu Bandara ( 60 – 63.5Kg)
Trinity Boxing have managed to maintain a record of being top 3 in all our meets since 2018 and continuously aims to set high standards amongst the school boxing fraternity.
Sincere gratitude goes to the coach of Trinity Boxing Mr. Lahiru Senarathne and the Master in Charge Mr. Aslam Marikar for the guidance and support to the Boxing team throughout the year.
The Boxing team will be seen next in the TB Jaya tournament which is going to be held in August 2022.
