With over three decades of experience in education, leadership, and school transformation, Mr. Fernando brings to the role a wealth of expertise, vision, and an unwavering commitment to student success.
A proud alumnus of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, Mr. Fernando distinguished himself as one of the College’s most outstanding students. He served as Head Prefect and was awarded the prestigious Victoria Gold Medal, the highest honour bestowed on the College’s Best All Round Student. A gifted leader from a young age, he served as President of numerous student societies and associations, held the rank of Cadet Corporal, excelled in a wide range of sports and co curricular activities, and was a 1st XI Hockey Coloursman for three consecutive years. His talents extended beyond the sporting arena, as he also played a prominent role in school life through drama, while leading both the College Choir and the Western Band. Following his schooling, he began his professional career as a teacher at his alma mater before going on to gain valuable experience in both the education and corporate sectors, developing a unique blend of leadership, management, and educational expertise.
Mr. Fernando holds Master’s Degrees in Education and Business Administration, together with a Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership and Management and several professional qualifications in Marketing and Human Resources. His unique blend of academic expertise, educational leadership, and corporate experience has enabled him to lead schools and educational institutions with distinction.
Throughout his career, he has been recognised for his ability to inspire communities, develop people, and create environments where both students and staff thrive. Most recently, as Principal of Wycherley International School, Colombo, and later as Coordinating Principal of the Wycherley Group of Schools and Alethea School and CEO of ANC Education, he led a number of strategic initiatives that enhanced academic performance, strengthened student leadership, expanded opportunities for holistic development, and elevated institutional standards. He currently serves as the Chairperson of The International Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL), reflecting the respect and confidence he enjoys among educational leaders across the country.
Known for his approachable nature, strong values, and student centred philosophy, Mr. Fernando believes that education should not only prepare young people for examinations but also equip them with the character, confidence, and skills required to make a meaningful contribution to society.
