Christmas time always brings magical experiences for young children as they are able to encounter all its wonders.
The students were provided with opportunities to understand the real meaning and the feeling of Christmas from the beginning of the 3rd term as the online handwork sessions commenced for them.
Objectives of the sessions
The sessions were carried out to provide the students with a festive atmosphere to enable them to create their very own magical Christmas experience.
The students were guided and directed to improve and utilize their cognitive skills and motor abilities, which are regarded as important factors in the learning process. The students also enhanced memories and developed an awareness of the culture of celebrations.
Being creative from early age
The students were encouraged to be creative, confident and independent when making the crafts. Being creative in Grade 1 includes interacting freely, experimenting happily, exploring with interest, improving imagination and creating a marvelous craft at the end by assembling the necessary items together.
Collecting material
The students were made to collect waste material such as pieces of gunny bags, egg cartons, garlic skin, dry scraped coconut, wrapping papers etc. for the handwork. The waste materials were used for the handwork in order to inculcate the necessity of recycling these materials for new creations.
Techniques inculcated to be creative
The students drew around circular objects and cut them, painted with water colours and pasted waste material accordingly to make the Christmas wreath and the Snowman.
