March at the Quadrangle is always a testing ground, but the 2026 Inter-house Basketball Tournament reached a new level of intensity. From 17th to 20th March, the court was a furnace: not just because of the Kandy sun, but due to the sheer effort every house brought to the game. With parents and students on the sidelines cheering with enthusiasm, the house teams displayed great spirit.
In the Junior category, the energy was high. Squealery House dominated the court, showing a level of fitness and speed that was difficult to match, especially in their 27-0 win over Gibson. Sahayam followed in second place, playing with grit and teamwork, while Pilcher secured third with consistent play.
The Senior tournament was a masterclass in tactical discipline and resilience. Central Boarding House (CBH) lived up to their reputation, remaining unbeaten and clinching the top spot after a competitive final against Lemuel, which ended 51-38. The CBH defensive wall was difficult to break, but Lemuel’s tactical execution kept them a constant threat throughout the week. Oorloff put in a significant effort to take third place, followed by Simithraaratchy and Garrett, who both displayed moments of brilliant playmaking and unselfish teamwork.
What stood out was the atmosphere of the Quadrangle itself. Seeing players from rival houses, exhausted after a physical game, shaking hands and sharing a laugh, reflected the true purpose of the tournament. Every house did its best to nurture the spirit of sportsmanship.
As the 2026 tournament concludes, the bar has been set high for the rest of the season. The teams are grateful to the Coaches, the Principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara, Vice Principal Mr Krishanthan Antonydas, Co-Vice Principal Mr Ananda Marasinghe, Director of Sports Mr Gihan Samarasekara, and the committee members of the Trinity Basketball Foundation. Recognition is also extended to the House Coordinators, Mr Wasana Dissanayake (Director of the TCCEI), MIC of Basketball Mr Dulanjaya Abeywickrama, TIC of Basketball Mrs Thanuja Wijerathne, as well as the teachers and parents for their support and guidance.
