The Covid 19 Pandemic halted the usual routine of the whole world, and schools rugby in Sri Lanka was no exception. But the Lankans finally got a glimpse of 15 a side schools rugby back in action in the month of January, as the Trinity College Rugby outfit embarked on a friendly match series, dubbed ‘The Trinity Tour’.
The matches were to be played by the 2021 rugby squad, as this was most probably the final opportunity for many senior players to don the iconic Red, Gold and Blue jersey while also giving the opportunity for new jersey winners to be a part of the legacy.
The first fixture was against Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College, Kandy which was played on the 15th of January at the Pallekele Rugby Stadium. The team was led by Thidas Thanthirige. The opening half saw fierce competition between both teams, with the Sumangala edging a lead at the half time break, only to be relinquished of the lead by a mile as the Trinitians made a glorious come back for a convincing win of 46-14.

The second game was played against Dharmaraja College Kandy, at the Pallekele Rugby stadium, which saw the return of skipper Tehan Karunanayake. The fierce game was finally taken by the dominant Trinitians by scoring 43 while not letting their opponents score any points.

The 3rd scheduled game against St. Thomas College, Mt. Lavinia was unfortunately postponed due to COVID-19, and is scheduled to go ahead later in March 2022.
This initiative taken by the Trinitians has given a stimulus to the local arena to restart school rugby league.
Await more action from the boys in Red, Gold and Blue as new battles are yet to come!
