Article by Wasana Dissanayake

Trinity College, Kandy, takes pride in congratulating Master Himaru Abeygunarathne of the 2025 batch, who secured first place in the district in the Biological Science stream and placed fifth in the island at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in 2025, and went on to represent Sri Lanka at the International Chemistry Olympiad held in Dubai, UAE, where he was awarded a bronze medal. These accomplishments reflect both his academic performance at national level and his ability to compete effectively on the international stage.

At the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in 2025, Himaru’s results placed him among the leading students in the country in the Biological Science stream. His performance reflects sustained effort and a focused approach to his studies.

At international level, his participation at the International Chemistry Olympiad provided the opportunity to engage with students from across the world, where he demonstrated a strong grasp of chemistry and earned a bronze medal.

At national level, he was awarded gold medals at the National Chemistry Olympiad in both 2025 and 2026, becoming a consecutive gold medallist. This performance led to his selection for the Sri Lanka National Team at the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad, currently being held in April at Lomonosov Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia.

Himaru’s progress reflects discipline and a sustained interest in chemistry, supported by consistent performance over time. The Trinity community congratulates him and wishes him well as he continues to represent Sri Lanka at international level.

  • More than a century ago, Rev. Lewis John Gaster envisioned a Chapel unlike any other. Working alongside him were Henry Schaetti, the distinguished Swiss architect whose early design work helped shape the project, and C. L. Unamboowe, the talented young Trinitian who transformed that vision into detailed architectural blueprints through remarkable skill, patience, and precision.

Today, the Chapel stands as one of Trinity’s most iconic landmarks. Yet behind its soaring pillars and intricate carvings lies a fascinating story of vision, creativity, and craftsmanship.

Discover how Rev. L. J. Gaster, Henry Schaetti, and Clement Leo Unamboowe helped create a building that has inspired generations of Trinitians for over a century.
