Environment Conservation Programme conducted by the Environmental Pioneering Brigade

The Environmental Pioneering Brigade of Trinity College organized its annual Environment Conservation Programme on the 8th of June.

The main aim of organizing this event is to highlight the present environment crisis we are facing, both at a local level globally. The reasons for the cause and the precautions that should be taken were clearly pointed out in a lecture.

This year’s programme was held in the Main Hall at the presence of the Director of Co-curricular Activities, Mr. K. Antonydas, the Head Master of the Middle School, Mr. S. P. Senaratne, the Middle School staff and the students of grade 6 and 7. The guest lecturer was Dr. Lalith Ekanayake.

The programme commenced at 11.30 am with the singing of the Nature song “parisara geethaya” to understand nature through music. Afterwards, a welcome speech and an introduction to the chief guest was delivered by a member of the Environmental Pioneering Brigade, Master Vinuth Warnasooriya.

Dr. Lalith Ekanayake was then called on stage to conduct his lecture. His lecture focused on environmental pollution in Sri Lanka. He highlighted the main contributors of pollution and the most harmful pollutants. His lecture was brilliantly delivered and the young students were given valuable information about the menace of pollution on the environment.

A vote of thanks was proposed on behalf of the Environmental Pioneering Brigade by Master Jayageeth Basnayake, and   token of appreciation was presented to Dr. Lalith Ekanayake by Mr. Antonydas and Mr. Palitha Senaratne. The programme concluded after the singing of the National Anthem.

  • Today, we remember the cross.

Set within the Chapel, this Crucifixion mural draws us into the stillness of Good Friday, where sacrifice speaks louder than words, and love is laid bare. In its stark imagery, it reflects suffering willingly embraced, and a love that endured to the very end.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.” — John 3:16

For Trinity and every Trinitian, this is more than a moment in history. It is a call to pause, reflect, and to recognise that true strength is found not in power, but in sacrifice, humility, and grace.
