The Junior Inter-house Hockey Encounter of 2018 was held on the 7th of July at the Trinity College Grounds in Asgiriya. The teams of the 5 junior houses (Pilcher, Saunders, Gibson, Sahayam and Squealery), trained by the Hockey coach Mr. Sumith Dissanayake, played each other to select the champion team for the year.
After the first rounds were played, the two teams for the final match was narrowed down to those of Gibson House and Saunders House.
Despite, or perhaps, as a result of the efforts of both teams, neither of whom were willing to lose, the match ended in a draw and the winner was determined by strokes. Captained by Isuru Ekanayake, the Gibson House team ultimately scored the most strokes, crowning them the Inter-house Hockey Champions.
The standings at the end of the day were as follows:
1st Place – Gibson House
2nd Place – Saunders House
3rd Place – Pilcher House
4th Place – Squealery House
5th Place – Sahayam House
The event was graced by Dr. S. Dhanapala and Mr. S. Sanjeewan (Secretary) of the Trinity College Hockey Foundation, Mr. K. Antonydas, the Director of co-curricular activities, and Mr. P. Seneratne, the Headmaster of the Middle School.
