Kindergarten contributes to Social Service during Christmas

The students of the Kindergarten were engaged in a Christmas fund raising project for the third consecutive year; with this year focusing on contributing much needed equipment to the Intensive Care Unit of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Childrens’ Hospital at Peradeniya.

Collection boxes were kept at the beginning of the term in all the KG classrooms, with classes competing with each other to collect the highest amount. At the close of the fund raising, the students and their parents had contributed a sum of Rs. 67,240.00.

The equipment were then bought by the teachers and handed over by the students to the representatives from the hospital at the Kindergarten Christmas Party, held on 27th November 2018, at the Junior School Hall.

We are grateful to Dr Waruni Gunarathne for co-ordinating the project, Dr M.A.M. Faizal – Consultant Pediatrician at the Intensive Care Unit of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Childrens’ Hospital, and Ms Lalani Ganegoda (Sister, M.I.C.U) for their enthusiasm and support for the project.

By involving students in activities of this nature at a very young age, Trinity strives to inculcate the true Christmas spirit not only by word but by the deed as well.

  • "By ten in the morning, Kandy had turned unexpectedly cool, a gentle drizzle veiling the grounds of the chapel of Trinity College, Kandy. Yet, nothing could diminish the quiet magnificence of this sacred space, an ode to Sri Lanka’s rich architectural corpus.

As one gazes at it in awe, a clear realization emerges: religious worship and spiritual fervor are not confined to established architectural schools. At a time when many churches on the island adopted European Gothic or Classical styles, this chapel stands apart as wholly indigenous. It departs from inherited conventions to root a faith brought from the West within a sanctuary modelled in Sri Lanka’s own heritage design language.

To the connoisseur of art and history, the Chapel of Trinity College, Kandy, is profoundly awe-inspiring. Standing outside, the mind travels easily across centuries: Embekke comes to mind, as do the royal audience hall of Polonnaruwa and the open-pillared structures of Anuradhapura."
