Master Yeshan Ranatunga from grade 8 has become one of the top 10 performers at the AIESEC Creative Talent Competition 2020 organised by the University of Peradeniya.
Yeshan’s poem, “I Think I’ve Told Too Much” by Covid-19 enabled him to move to the top of this competition.
“I Think I’ve Told Too Much” by Covid-19
As told by Y.S. Ranatunga
You might have heard the recent news
The chaos I’ve done around the world,
You might be angry and worried too
But here’re things you really can do.
Try washing your hands once every hour
While singing your birthday song,
Sing it twice or maybe thrice,
And ‘whoosh’, you’re done!
Make sure to stop your parents
Before they enter home,
Ask them “please go wash yourselves”,
Before they kiss and hug.
“But what if I cough?”,
The little child asked,
“Well, that’s very easy”,
replied the virus,
Just cough into your elbow,
Or a tissue you find nearby.
Do not even think of touching your eyes,
Or even your nose or mouth.
Just try to find another way,
To bear that annoying scratch.
And please make sure you wear a mask,
Oh please you really should!
Maybe, just turn a deaf ear,
Maybe, just turn a deaf ear,
“Oh no”,
“Why what’s wrong virus?,
You were telling it so well”,
“Just, that’s the thing”,
I think I’ve told too much!
