In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, Trinity College’s sports team emerged as the 1st runner-up at the highly anticipated All Island Ritzbury Relay Carnival. The event took place from the 24th to the 26th of June at the Sugathadasa Stadium, marking a triumphant return for Trinity Athletics after seven years.
Under the exceptional leadership of master Umar Manzil, Trinity College’s athletes showcased their talents and delivered impressive performances across various age groups. The under 14 and under 18 teams demonstrated their mettle, securing an outstanding 2nd place overall. Meanwhile, the under 20 team put forth a commendable effort, finishing in 4th place overall.
The under 14 team’s accomplishments were remarkable, as they clinched 1st place in the 4 x 50m event and secured an impressive 2nd place in the 4 x 200m race. The team, comprised of Yumal Jayasooriya, Thevith Aluthgedara, Raveesh Wijeratne, Nabil Abdul, and Mintharu Ekanayake, displayed remarkable coordination and skill.
In the under 18 category, Trinity College continued their winning streak with a 1st place finish in the 4 x 100m race and a notable 2nd place in the 4 x 200m event. Additionally, they secured 3rd place in the Medley Relay (short) and the 4 x 400m race. The team, consisting of Kaveen Gamage, Mohammud Atheeb Riffai, Hamza Sufiyan, Charu Dassanayake, Dhanuja Ellegala, Damrith Gamage, S. Abishan, and Tinuka Jaburegoda, demonstrated exceptional teamwork and dedication.
Trinity College’s under 20 team showcased their abilities in a fiercely competitive field. They achieved 3rd place in the 4 x 400m and 4 x 800m races, while securing 4th place in the Medley Relay (long) and 5th place in the 4 x 100m event. The team, led by Umar Manzil, included Sawan Aluwihare, Thidas Bandaranayake, Stephan Asher, Hithesh Arunasalam, Sadhil Ranaweera, Sachindu Wanasekara, Movindu Senanayake, and Upek Gammudali.
Other notable achievements included the performances of the Under 16 Team, consisting of Nethuja Ramasundaram, Shavindu Moonamalpe, Dulaj Rathnayake, Akila Ellegala, Ayyash Abubakkar, Dihen Bethota, Kevin Dilshan, Ronal Weerasekara, and Joel Rambukannage. The Under 12 Team, comprising P. H. Silva, S. Kahandawala, D. M. V. K. Dissanayake, L. A. C. Vithanage, C. W. S. V. Devunija, and Yevin Ranasinghe, also exhibited great potential.
