The Gavel Club of Trinity College returns with the second edition of the All-island Inter-school prepared speech competition, ICEBREAKER ‘24, following its first rendition in 2022. This competition provides a platform for talented gaveliers island-wide to perform and showcase their public speaking talents, whilst promoting friendly competition.
Having opened registrations on the 9th of August, and following a 2 week registration period, the Preliminary round began on the 26th of August, with a total of over 130 registrations across both the Junior and Senior Categories. This round was held via video submissions, where each contestant submitted a video of their speech. Following the closing of submissions for this round, the panel of judges worked effortlessly to select Semi-finalists out of a pool of many talented young gaveliers. This panel was led by the esteemed TM Saman Walisinghe from the DOWELS Toastmasters Club, who served as the Chief Judge. His immense support and contribution resulted in the success of the Preliminary round.
On the 25th of September, the Semi-finalists of both categories were announced to all the eagerly waiting gaveliers. The organizing committee of ICEBREAKER ‘24, from the Gavel Club are currently working with utmost dedication to make the next stage of the competition a success, the Semi-finals.
