Splashing into victory, Inter-House Swimming Meet 2024.

By Yasas Senanayake & Disalana Jayasooriya (Web Content Team)

A highlight of the school calendar, the Inter-House Swimming Meet took place during the second and third weeks of October 2024. Through fierce competition, Boarding House came out on top from the Junior School and Sahayam House reinstated their status as champions in the Middle School, after knocking down its rivals. And finally, as the overall champions of the Inter-House Swimming Meet 2024, Garrett House emerged victorious by scoring an impressive 129 points.

At the heats, each swimmer was ready to give their best in hopes of making their way into the finals of this coveted event. The top 7 swimmers of each event were eligible to participate in the finals. The stakes were high as the first whistle marked the commencement of the competitive events between the otherwise friendly swimmers.

Finally, upon the commencement of the finals of the Inter-House Swimming Meet, the adrenaline wash palpable in the spectators. This occasion, graced by the presence of Mr. Ranga Balasuriya displayed acts of great sportsmanship. The sheer talent and dedication of these swimmers were enough to get the spectators onto the edge of their seats as they eagerly prepared to witness a fierce and tense battle to push their house over the edge to claim victory.

In contrast to the competitive atmosphere maintained by the swimmers, a relay was organized between the coaches, old boys, and current seniors of Trinity Swimming to maintain the fun and light-heartedness of the event. Whilst the Seniors emerged on top, this was just a glimpse of the unprecedented camaraderie seen in the background of Trinity Swimming.

In the end, these swimmers, regardless of their placement in the events, were rewarded for their commitment  towards taking their respective Houses to greater heights.

  • "By ten in the morning, Kandy had turned unexpectedly cool, a gentle drizzle veiling the grounds of the chapel of Trinity College, Kandy. Yet, nothing could diminish the quiet magnificence of this sacred space, an ode to Sri Lanka’s rich architectural corpus.

As one gazes at it in awe, a clear realization emerges: religious worship and spiritual fervor are not confined to established architectural schools. At a time when many churches on the island adopted European Gothic or Classical styles, this chapel stands apart as wholly indigenous. It departs from inherited conventions to root a faith brought from the West within a sanctuary modelled in Sri Lanka’s own heritage design language.

To the connoisseur of art and history, the Chapel of Trinity College, Kandy, is profoundly awe-inspiring. Standing outside, the mind travels easily across centuries: Embekke comes to mind, as do the royal audience hall of Polonnaruwa and the open-pillared structures of Anuradhapura."
