Disalana Jayasooriya (Web Content Team) The Trinity College Swimming Team showcased their prowess at the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Championships held between the 9th -14th July 2024, at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex. Teemed with grit, TCK’s swimming squad was placed Fourth with an overall finish over 235 points. Hard work and talent paid off as the Under-20 swimmers dominated their age group once again, after 8 long years. From countless hours of training in the pool to pushing themselves to the limit, these talented swimmers put their best strokes forward and achieved their own personal bests whilst soaring amongst the best. Under 12- Under 16- Under 18- Under 20- Under 20: 4x50M Medley Relay – 1st Place Under 20: 4x50m Freestyle Relay – 2nd Place Behind these crowning achievements, stand the devoted coaches, and Master-In-Charge guiding, mentoring and inspiring our swimmers to strive. With this full display of Trinity’s emerging talents, the Trinity Swimming team sets their sights on an even higher finish next year.
Review by; Muhammed Jameel Master Senuja Samarasinghe: the former captain of the College’s swimming team has been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the BIMSTEC Youth Aquatic Sports Championship which is scheduled to be held from the 7th to the 14th of February 2024 in New Delhi. Master Samarasinghe will be amongst a swimming squad of 20 boys and 20 girls. The Championship will be held in the SPMC Indoor Swimming Complex which consists of an eight-lane, 50 meter pool at Talkatora, New Delhi. Master Senuja will be taking part in the following events for the Sri Lankan outfit: Master Samarasinghe is an inspiring figure who has ensured that the infrastructure and program development for Trinity Swimming is a success and is sure to produce marvelous performances by the team in the near future. On behalf of the Trinity fraternity, we wish Master Senuja Samarasinghe and the Sri Lankan squad all the very best in their pursuit of bringing glory to our beloved country.

(Web Content Team) The Inter-House Swimming meet, held at the College Swimming Complex on the 2nd and 3rd of November 2023, united passionate swimmers in pursuit of victory for their houses. Sahayam House triumphed among the junior houses, while Simithraaratchy House emerged victorious among the senior houses in this year’s competition. At the Heats, on the 2nd afternoon, the event started strong with the 133m Individual Medley Relay. Determined to break the record of 02.02.30, set by S.R.Tennakoon, the swimmers got on to the blocks. Amid a moment of silence at the Trinity Swimming Complex, the whistle marked the commencement of the individual medley, challenging swimmers with the Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle. The event ended with some brilliant wins and the Heats continued for the rest of the events, which were successfully completed. The final segment of the Inter-House Swimming Meet was on the 3rd of November, graced by the Chief Guest Mr. Vinoth Kumar, an old boy, and an ardent swimmer who had secured championships during his time, and his wife, Mrs. Susheela Kumarappan. The final events in the competition served a primary purpose of identifying youth talent while bolstering a culture of sportsmanship and friendly competition. The fierce rivalries of the houses were on full display as the day began with the 33m Butterfly stroke. The whistle blew and the swimmers plunged into the water and swam with one goal: victory. The second event on the agenda was the exciting 33m breaststroke. The swimmers dived in, desperate for victory. The graceful and disciplined movements of the swimmers were a testament to rigorous training for months and weeks under their respective coaches. Next, the 33m backstroke event commenced, as the first line of swimmers assembled at the marshaling point and lowered themselves into the water, full of anticipation. With no distraction from the losses of the previous event, and no over confidence with the wins, the enthusiastic swimmers eager to bring glory to their respective houses, set out on achieving their next milestone- the 33M Freestyle event. Tension was brewing to its max. Following a brief break, the Women’s Invited Relay featured participants from Hillwood College, Mahamaya College, Gateway College, and Girls’ High School. Hillwood College secured the top spot, followed by Mahamaya College and Gateway College. The Men’s Invited Relay followed, with swimmers from Dharmaraja College, Chandananda College, Kingswood College, and St. Anthony’s College. Dharmaraja College claimed the first position, with Kingswood College and Chandananda College securing the second and third spots, respectively. In the final event, the Old Boys and Coaches swam in a Relay, and Old Boys emerged as winners. A review by Chaniru Senhas (Web Content Team) The Junior School Inter House Swimming Meet was held on the 13th of October, at the College Swimming Pool Complex, with the participation of many young Trinity athletes. The participants showcased their dedication and swimming skills in a variety of categories, from freestyle to breaststroke. The event celebrated not only the thrill of victory but also the joy of sportsmanship. The dawn staged upon with a set of junior swimmers, who, in a unique manner exclusive towards the sport, welcoming the special honourees, the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Shelton Samadanam, Vice Principal, Mr. Krishanthan Anthonydas, Co Vice Principal, Mr. Ananda Marasinghe, Headmistresses of the Middle School and Junior School, Mrs. Krishni George and Mrs. Tissera, Mr. Samarasekara and the Prefect of Games, Mr. Uththiya Wijesinghe. After the warm reception, the National flag, College flag and the house flags were hauled up, which was followed by the opening prayer given by the chaplain. As the inauguration concluded , the events commenced along with the length category. It was followed by a short recess and the invitation relays, in which Mahamaya Girls’ College Kandy and Hillwood College Kandy took part in the girls’ category, whilst Dharmaraja College Kandy, Kingswood College Kandy, and Chandananda Buddhist College took part in the boys’ category. The presentation of awards to the winners of the invitation relays was followed by the breadth events. The event was then brought to a successful conclusion with the presentation of awards to all the winners, the address by the Headmistress of the Junior School, Mrs. Tissera followed by instilling a sense of pride and patriotism towards the country through the National Anthem. The placements of the houses are as follows: 1st place – Boarding House (302 points) 2nd place – Carter Reds (134 points) 3rd place – Carter Yellows (129 points) 4th place – Campbell House (61 points) 5th place – Carter Blues (49 points) The champion swimmers of each grade are as follows: Grade 3 – S.M.D.A.D Serasinghe (Boarding House) Grade 4 – R.M.K.G.V.D.B. July 15th and 16th, 2023 marked an extraordinary display of talent and determination as Trinity College took the swimming world by storm at the National School Games Central Province held at Digana Sports Complex. With their remarkable performance, Trinity College emerged as the undeniable champions, leaving their competitors in awe. Securing an impressive 755 points, Trinity College claimed the top spot in various categories, showcasing their unrivaled prowess in the pool. Throughout the competition, their athletes exhibited exceptional skill, unwavering determination, and true sportsmanship, earning the admiration of all. In the Under 20 category, Senuja Samarasinghe and S.J.S. Kumar proved to be a formidable duo, capturing the championship title with their extraordinary talent, adding yet another feather to Trinity College’s illustrious cap. The Under 18 champions, S.V. Jayawanth, Tharusha Herath, and S. Thuwarkish, left an indelible mark on the competition with their remarkable abilities, solidifying Trinity College’s dominance in the swimming arena. Pahan Anusara, a rising star from Trinity College, showcased an exceptional performance in the Under 16 category, capturing the title and shining brightly among the talented participants. The Under 14 category saw the emergence of Sethum Tennakoon as a force to be reckoned with. With remarkable skill and determination, Tennakoon represented Trinity College with unparalleled excellence, securing the championship. Even at a young age, S.C. Goonethilaka displayed incredible talent in the Under 12 category, making Trinity College proud with their exceptional abilities. Behind every successful team, there are dedicated coaches who guide, mentor, and inspire. Trinity College acknowledges the invaluable contributions of the coaches who have nurtured the swimmers’ talent, instilled discipline, and provided the necessary guidance to reach new heights.
Trinity Swimming Captain 2022, Mast. Senuja Samarasinghe was recently selected to the Sri Lanka National Swimming Pool 2023. Senuja took to the pool at a young age of 8 in 2012, and since then has enjoyed every minute in it. He left for England in 2013, where he started competitive swimming. This kickstarted a career that was sure to be a successful one. He returned back to Sri Lanka and College in 2015 and represented Trinity at Swimming under the guidance of his coach Mr.U.H. Pemlath until today. Senuja displayed tremendous talent in his first meet in 2020. He placed 7th Overall in the Pentathlon Short Course Swimming Championship, and placed 3rd in the Backstroke. Afterwhich his momentum was hit hard, as the Covid Pandemic meant that all meets were halted, and Senuja and his team had to cut short on practice. But as soon as his opportunities arose, he went all out and bagged many medals and accolades at the meets that followed. National Age Group Open Trial 2022 ● 50m Backstroke – 2nd Place● 100m Backstroke – 2nd Place● 200m IM – 2nd Place● 100m Butterfly – 4th Place National Age Group 2022 Pentathlon Long Course Swimming Championship 2022 3rd Place Overall National School Games 2022 Senuja broke the record in the 200m Individual Medley at the National School Games 2022, where he clocked in at 2.22.30s, as the entire Sugathadasa Stadium applauded his commendable feat. Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Championship 2022 Short Course Nationals 2022 After taking to the pool at the tender age of 8, Senuja has worked his way up to now be a part of a legacy that the entire Trinity Family could be proud of. This is a remarkable achievement for Senuja, as he will be amongst the likes of the best of the best in Sri Lanka. We wish him all the best!
The thundering roar of the immensely enthusiastic young fans and the fanatic parents came to a sudden halt. For a breathtaking second, the Trinity Swimming Complex was swept with a wave of silence. The whistle blew breaking the spell of silence as the swimmers leaped into the still blue waters. The Inter-House Meet for the junior swimmers was held on the 13th of October in the presence of the Chief Guest Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB consisting of a wide range of events, the competition served a primary purpose of identifying youth talent while bolstering a culture of sportsmanship and friendly competition. The fierce rivalries of the five houses were on full display as the day began with the 33m backstroke. Throughout the day many appealing events were held including the 33 1/3 m Freestyle, 33 1/3 m Butterfly, 33 1/3 m Breaststroke,100m Freestyle and the Individual Medley which were all well represented by young and promising sportsmen. The meet also comprised traditional invitational relays for both boys’ and girls’ categories. Mahamaya Girls’ College and Dharmaraja College emerged champions in their respective events while Hillwood College and Kingswood College finished second. The day came to a conclusion with the declaration of Campbell House as the champion house with 159 points to their name, in what was a close and thrilling battle. The Trinity College Swimming Team has well and truly found its footing once again in the schools swimming arena. The team took part in the National School Games which was organized by the Ministry of Education and brought glory to College in the form of a number of medals. The meet was held from the 28th-30th of October 2022 at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex. The following swimmers who took to the pool, placed in their respective events as follows, 1. Imesh Dissanayake – Under 13 3rd Place – 100m Freestyle 2. Shenal Ranhaluge – Under 18 1st Place – 100m Butterfly 1st Place – 200m Butterfly 3rd Place – 50m Butterfly 3. Joshua Satheeshkumar – Under 18 2nd Place – 400m Freestyle 2nd Place – 200m Breaststroke 4. Sadhil Ranaweera – Under 18 2nd Place – 50m Breaststroke 3rd Place – 100m Breaststroke 5. Senuja Samarasinghe – Under 20 1st Place – 50m Backstroke 1st Place – 200m Individual Medley 2nd Place – 100m Backstroke 6. Janidu Jayasekera – Under 20 3rd Place – 100m Freestyle Master Senuja Samarasinghe impressed the entire Sugathadasa Stadium with his record breaking swim in the 200m Individual Medley event. He clocked in at a time of 2.22.30s. The Trinity College Swimming Team emerged 4th Place overall in the Championship. The Kindergarten swimming Meet was held on Friday 30th of September 2022. All the students were very enthusiastic from the beginning and they were able to show their best skills. The event started with a mind-blowing dance. The meet was special because it was the first swimming meet held after a long break caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. Due to this, it was decided to add some new events to suit the abilities of the students. Grade 1 and 2 students were able to compete in a skillful manner. The Principal Rev. Fr. We are delighted to announce that the Trinity College Swimming Team emerged champions with 362 points at the Central Province National School Games Meet, held at Digana Sports Complex from the 10th and 11th of October 2022. Trinity became overall champions in the Under 14, 18 and 20 age categories and runners up in the Under 12 and 16 age group . We express our appreciation to the MIC, Mr. Upali Amarakoon and Coaching Team headed by Mr. Pemlath for their efforts to achieve excellence.
