The Islamic Students’ Movement (ISM) of Trinity College proudly marked its 53rd Annual General Meeting on the 23rd of February at the Main Hall of the college. This milestone reflects five decades of dedication, fostering a legacy of identity and unity, within college.
The occasion was graced by Dr. Anver Mohamed Hamdani the Chief Guest, and Mr. Murad Ramzeen the Guest of Honour, both legends of Trinity College. Their presence inspired the young minds gathered.
The proceedings commenced with a soul-cleansing Qur’anic recital which resonated deeply with the audience, moving many to tears, by a very own Trinitian. Master Mohamed Arkam, the President of ISM-TCK, then delivered a heartfelt welcome address, extending his gratitude to the esteemed guests, invited schools, teachers and fellow students.
A particularly momentous highlight of the event was the address by the Mistress-in-Charge, Mrs. F.D. Farzan. This year held a special significance as she proudly assumed her role as the first Mistress-in-Charge of the Trinity College Islamic Students’ Movement. Her inspiring words showed the importance of faith and academic excellence.
Adding to the significance of the event, a valuable message was delivered by the past Master-in-Charge, Mr. Asheik M.J.M. Sufiyan. His profound words reflected the true essence and purpose of such an occasion, restoring the values of unity and moral enrichment. Following his address, the middle school students of Grades 8 and 9, with the guidance of their seniors, presented a mesmerizing Qaseeda (Islamic song), which captivated the audience creating a sense of spiritual harmony. This was followed by the speech by the Co-Vice Principal of Trinity College, Mr. Ananda Marasinghe, who captured the attention of all spectators.
One of the most anticipated moments for the students was the award ceremony for the winners of the intra-school competitions. This segment was not merely a distribution of certificates but a celebration of talent and committment of the students.
As the event progressed, an exceptional performance was delivered by Master Ayyash AbuBakar, Master Muadh Hameed, Master Mahadi Rizan, and Master Reshan Odayar. Their presentation, centered around respect and care for parents and the elderly, left a palpable appreciation in the audience. Their performance not only moved the spectators but also instilled valuable moral lessons, earning praise even from students from other schools, both boys and girls, who had participated in the inter-school competitions.
The second phase of the award ceremony recognized more outstanding students for their achievements. Subsequently, a harmonious performance followed with a duet delivered by Master Umair Saheed and Master Harun Fazil, which left the audience in awe. Their extraordinary display of talent brought joy and admiration, adding a cheerful atmosphere to the gathering.
The highlight of the day was a captivating drama that beautifully depicted the significance of dedication and discipline in daily life. The talented cast included Master Arham Dil Fowzy, Master Shabib Hassan, Master Shimmer Imaz, Master Ammar Siddeek, Master Ayyoob Hannan, Master Thalal Riyad, Master Arqam Fuard, Master Raffa Qais, Master Aasil Lareef, Master Sumama Marikkar, Master Zaidh Ziyadh, Master Mohamed Akmal, Master Aakif Irshard, Master Haadi, Master Umar, Master Muazz, and Master Aathif. The play evoked laughter, joy, and reflection, serving as a reminder of the importance of commitment.
Later, the audience awaited the distribution of the esteemed Al-Hudha Magazine to the teachers and the distinguished chief guest. A moment of great significance, this handover symbolized commitment to the great knowledge and academic excellence within the community. The atmosphere was further elevated by the inspiring speech of the chief guest, Dr. Anver Hamdhani. His words resonated deeply with the young students, embedding in them a sense of purpose and passion for continuous learning and self-improvement. His address reflected his dedication to education.
As the event progressed, students from visiting schools awaited the announcement for winners of the inter-school competitions. Hillwood College, Girls’ High School, Kingswood College, Good Shepherd Convent, St. Sylvester’s College, Zahira College and over 23 schools competed in a spirit of excellence. Ultimately, the new and improved Champion Shield was proudly claimed by Zahira College Colombo, while Zahira College Matale secured the runner-up position. The competition served as a testament to the perseverance of the students, who showcased remarkable skill and knowledge.
Despite the challenges encountered along the way, the event was an accomplishment, and would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of the organizing committee and the invaluable support of the Principal Rev. Father Araliya Jaysundara OSB, Vice Principal Mr. Krishantan Anthonidas, Co-Vice Principal Mr Anada Marsinghe and the Director of Co-Curricular Sector, Mr. Wasana Dissanayake and the 51st ISM committee. Their unwavering commitment ensured that the occasion remained in the memory of all attendees, serving as a beacon of knowledge, unity, and excellence.
