On 10 October 2025, the Animation and Life Coaching Unit of Trinity College, Kandy extended its support to the Youth Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Handessa, Peradeniya, through a donation drive organised to assist the children residing there.
The Youth Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre is a facility dedicated to helping young people under the age of 21 recover from drug dependency. The centre functions under the supervision of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) and currently provides care and accommodation for 35 residents. An expansion project is already underway to increase capacity to over 100 residents, aiming to broaden the scope of rehabilitation and accelerate recovery for affected youth in Sri Lanka.
The donated items, consisting of daily household essentials and basic medical supplies, were generously contributed by the students of Trinity College and Play-Pen Pre-schools. This initiative was carried out in observance of World Children’s Day and Mental Health Week at the College.
Trinity College extends its heartfelt appreciation to all donors and to the students of the Animation and Life Coaching Unit for their committed participation in this meaningful initiative. The student team included Masters Nethil Tennakoon, Sadul Wijewardena, Thevan Abeywickrama, Viyara Godage, Kankesh, Dhamiru Bandara, Sanula Jayasinghe, Shameel Praneeth, Thinuga Ariyatilake, Wishwa Nanayakkara, Bumindu Amarasekara, Hasiru Bandara, Hashen Jayawardane, Inura Gamage, Jordon Balasuriya and Thisal Abeyrathne, whose teamwork and enthusiasm contributed greatly to the success of the visit.
