Trinity College CrossFit Club hosted the Triathlon 2026 on Saturday, 3 October. The event marked the second consecutive year since the Triathlon was revived in 2025. Students, invited schools, Old Boys and members of the Armed Forces took part in the competition.
After a long absence, the return of the Triathlon in 2025 brought the event back to the College sporting calendar. The 2026 edition continued this tradition with a wider group of competitors.
A Test of Endurance
The Triathlon consisted of three disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. Competitors had to maintain their fitness and focus throughout each stage of the course.
The event began at the Trinity College Junior School Grounds. Competitors first completed the swimming leg before moving on to the cycling route towards the Udawattakele area. The running leg then took them through the surrounding area before they returned to the Junior School Grounds to finish the race.
The course tested the competitors’ fitness and ability to adapt to different conditions across the three stages.
A Wider Competition
The 2026 Triathlon brought together students, representatives of invited schools, Old Boys and Open competitors. Teams representing the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Navy also took part.
Their participation gave young athletes the opportunity to compete alongside more experienced competitors and learn from their approach to training, discipline and competition.
The Spirit of Trinity
The Triathlon was about more than finishing positions. Competitors showed discipline, perseverance and respect for one another throughout the race.
Completing a course that combines swimming, cycling and running requires preparation and commitment. Each competitor had to keep going through the more challenging stages of the race and support the spirit of fair competition.
A Team Effort
The successful staging of the Triathlon involved the efforts of the College administration, CrossFit Club, staff members, student volunteers, officials, medical personnel, security and traffic authorities, the Armed Forces and supporting organisations and individuals.
The Trinity College CrossFit Club was responsible for much of the planning and coordination behind the event, working with the various groups involved to ensure that the competition ran smoothly.
Continuing the Tradition
The Trinity College Triathlon 2026 was the second edition since the event was revived, helping to establish it once again as part of the College’s sporting calendar.
The event brought together different parts of the Trinity community and gave students an opportunity to test themselves alongside competitors from outside the College.
With the Triathlon now returning for a second consecutive year, it has the potential to become a regular part of Trinity’s sporting tradition and continue encouraging students to develop discipline, fitness and sportsmanship.
