Trinity College Kandy is proud to announce that it is now officially licensed to deliver the global TED-Ed Student Talks programme, marking an important step in the College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen student voice, critical thinking, and idea-driven learning.
Following the official adoption of the programme, the TED-Ed Club at Trinity College Kandy has been established as the College’s operational platform for delivering the TED-Ed Student Talks experience. The Club will function as a dedicated segment of the Trinity College Technopreneurship Club, integrating innovation, creativity, and communication within a unified learning ecosystem.
The College is now officially licensed under the global TED-Ed Student Talks programme, an internationally recognised educational initiative of TED that supports students in developing and sharing original ideas through a structured, mentor-guided process.
A Global Platform for Student Ideas
TED-Ed Student Talks is designed to help students move beyond traditional presentations by encouraging deep thinking, clarity of expression, and meaningful communication. Unlike debates or competitions, the emphasis is on ideas, how they are formed, refined, and communicated with purpose.
Through this programme, Trinity students will follow an official TED-Ed framework that supports them in identifying ideas worth sharing, researching and shaping those ideas, and presenting them confidently in front of an audience. Students who complete the programme will have the opportunity to deliver their talks at a curated Student Talks showcase conducted in accordance with TED-Ed guidelines.
Open to Students from Grades 6 to 14
The TED-Ed Student Talks programme at Trinity College Kandy is now open to students from Grades 6 to 14. The initiative welcomes students from diverse interests and academic backgrounds, whether their passions lie in science, technology, humanities, the arts, social issues, or personal experiences.
No prior public speaking experience is required. What matters most is curiosity, willingness to engage with ideas, and openness to learning through discussion and reflection.
Participation in the TED-Ed Club supports the development of a wide range of essential skills, including critical thinking, storytelling, research, collaboration, and confident communication. Students benefit from workshops, mentoring sessions, peer feedback, and guided preparation that help them grow intellectually and personally.
Beyond the talks themselves, the programme fosters a culture of respectful dialogue, thoughtful questioning, and intellectual courage, values that align closely with Trinity College Kandy’s educational philosophy.
