Automotive Society Educates Middle School Students on Automobile Industry and Innovation

Trinity College’s Automotive Society recently organized an enlightening awareness program for Middle School students, aimed at providing insights into the automobile industry and fostering a passion for innovation. The event, held on February 15th, featured two distinguished keynote speakers who shared their expertise with the eager students.

Mr. Rahal Nanayakkara, a research assistant at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, was one of the key speakers. Drawing from his firsthand experiences, Mr. Nanayakkara provided valuable insights into the pioneering efforts behind the launch of VEGA, Sri Lanka’s first in-house built automobile. His technical knowledge and involvement in the project allowed the students to gain a deeper understanding of automotive engineering.

The second keynote speaker was Mr. Nikhila Wijewardena, a successful entrepreneur in the auto repair and customization industry. As the founder of Fixitbynic, a renowned network specializing in personalized vehicle modifications, Mr. Wijewardena shared his expertise in adding unique touches to dream rides. His practical insights inspired the students and showcased the diverse opportunities within the automotive sector.

The program aimed to educate middle school students about the various aspects of the automobile industry, including motor mechanisms, engineering, and technological advancements. By bringing together industry experts, the event provided a comprehensive overview of the modern automotive landscape, covering sectors such as manufacturing and engineering.

The Automotive Society has a long-standing commitment to experiential learning and nurturing a passion for innovation at Trinity College. With a rich history dating back to the 1970s, the society continues to inspire and empower students to explore the vast possibilities within the automotive industry. By organizing events like this awareness program, the society aims to make a lasting impact and leave a remarkable legacy in the school’s history.

Through initiatives like this, Trinity College’s Automotive Society is shaping the future of automotive enthusiasts, engineers, and innovators, ensuring that Sri Lanka remains at the forefront of the evolving automobile industry.
