Splashing Milestones: The Annual Kindergarten Swimming Meet

By Chaniru Senhas (Web Content Team)

On a crisp and refreshing November morning, that was the 8th, with clear skies and temperatures rising to a warm and pleasant 30 degrees Celcius, the much-anticipated annual Kindergarten Swimming Meet took place. This grand event saw eager spectators treated to spirited yet friendly competition as Grade 1 and 2 students participated in a series of inter-class events, showcasing both skill and enthusiasm.

In keeping with tradition, the event commenced in a spiritual and dignified manner. The Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Shelton Samadanam, opened the day with a prayer, followed by the symbolic hoisting of the National and College Flags by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara, and the Junior School Headmistress, Mrs. C. P. K. De Tissera. The Junior School Western Band performed the National Anthem and College Song, filling the atmosphere with a sense of pride and unity. Adding a touch of elegance to the morning, a group of talented Grade 2 dancers graced the stage with a vibrant performance, while swimmers extended tokens of appreciation to officially welcome all honored guests.

The competition opened with the Grade 2 length events, where the young swimmers showcased impressive endurance by covering over 33 meters, representing their respective classes. Following this, the Grade 1 students delighted the audience with unique, game-like routines they had prepared especially for the meet. The Breadth events soon followed, with Grade 1 swimmers skillfully covering a distance of over 12 meters. The day’s competition concluded with the Grade 2 breadth and class events, marking the end of an exciting lineup of races. The event concluded on a high note with Mrs. C. P. K. De Tissera delivering the vote of thanks, after which all in attendees rose to sing the National Anthem in unison.

A heartfelt thanks is extended to the Teacher-in-Charge of Kindergarten Swimming, Miss Dhananjali Bulathsinhala, whose unwavering dedication made this event possible. Special gratitude is also due to the Master-in-Charge of Trinity Swimming, Mr. Pemlath Uyanahewa, Head Coach Mr. Avantha Weerasinghe and the Swimming pool staff for their exceptional guidance and support. Finally, a round of applause goes to the dedicated teachers of the Kindergarten and Junior School, whose hard work helped these young Trinitians shine in their remarkable performances.

  • More than a century ago, Rev. Lewis John Gaster envisioned a Chapel unlike any other. Working alongside him were Henry Schaetti, the distinguished Swiss architect whose early design work helped shape the project, and C. L. Unamboowe, the talented young Trinitian who transformed that vision into detailed architectural blueprints through remarkable skill, patience, and precision.

Today, the Chapel stands as one of Trinity’s most iconic landmarks. Yet behind its soaring pillars and intricate carvings lies a fascinating story of vision, creativity, and craftsmanship.

Discover how Rev. L. J. Gaster, Henry Schaetti, and Clement Leo Unamboowe helped create a building that has inspired generations of Trinitians for over a century.
