Reviewed by Shahrukh Fairooz and Wosanda Malaviarachchi. The heart-racing change from the Ordinary Level (O/L) classes to the Advanced Level (A/L) classes marks a pivotal moment in any student’s academic journey. The leap in academic demand and the depth of subject matter can be overwhelming for every student. To help students overcome these issues, specialized bridging programs are designed and conducted to ease this transition. These programs aim to reinforce not only the key concepts from the O/L curriculum while introducing foundational elements of the Advanced Level (A/L) syllabus, but also develop leadership skills, provide enjoyment, improve other skills, develop creativity and most importantly, pave the way to create the ideal 21st century Trinitian. The program went on for about 1 and a ½ weeks starting from the 27th of May 2024 to the 18th of June 2024, aiming to guide the new batch for the Advanced Level (A/L) classes. The bridging program was successfully held with an astounding participation of 150 students. Throughout these 10 days, 12 programs were held, making sure to equip students with the necessary skills for their new endeavor. This program would not have been successful without the immense support and dedication of Mr. Shiran Sampath, Mr. Kusal Perera, Mr. Prabath Jayathilake, Mr. Wasana Dissanayake, Mr. Dhanushka Warnakulasooriya, the Advanced Level (A/L) Sectional Heads, Master Dulith Cooray and the School Officers’ Guild. The students who took part in this once in a lifetime event resumed their work with refreshed minds, polished skills, and most certainly had little to no hesitation in diving into the new chapter of their academic adventure at Trinity College.
20 July 2024 6.30 PM The Trinity College Choir’s Mind Your Music concert can be considered as a modest attempt to present the Choir’s wide variety of repertoire, incorporating a broad array of music of different styles, genres and eras. This traditional concert itself is recorded to have had its inception in the ’70s, while continuing through the ’80s, ’90s and ’20s as a regular well loved house-full event. In ‘Classics to Chart Hits’, we will celebrate those pieces that are considered Classics, which have earned much respect from the time of their composition but don’t really fall under the modern idea of ‘pop’ songs, all the while managing to remain ‘evergreen’. From Classics we make our way to songs that reached the Top Ten in music charts that still remain in our hearts as Hits.

It is with deep regret and profound disappointment that we witnessed the incident that occurred after the recent rugby match on 30th June 2024 at the Airforce Grounds, Ratmalana, Colombo, involving the assault of match officials. This dastardly act is entirely unacceptable and stands in stark contrast to the values of respect, sportsmanship, and integrity that our schools and the sport of rugby strive to uphold. Whilst we condemn this act of gross violence and hooliganism, our thoughts are with the match officials who were subjected to this type of aggression. The committed services of the Sri Lanka Society for Rugby Football Referees [SLSRFR] are critical for their pivotal role in ensuring the safety and fairness of play, and the enjoyment of the game for all students and spectators. Hence, it is the duty of the sports loving community, and especially schools’ rugby community to extend the required support. We view this matter extremely seriously and strongly urge the statutory bodies of the game to conduct a comprehensive and impartial investigation and take maximum punitive and preventive measures to eradicate such violence from sports in Sri Lanka. It is critically important that the schools’ rugby community collectively condemn this act of violence and take all possible measures to provide a safe environment for students, parents, old boys and match officials upholding the true spirit and value of the sport. Shabeer Ahamed, due to multi organ failure following severe pneumonia. Shabeer was a very pleasant child and a beloved member of our school community. This loss is deeply felt by all who knew Shabeer and we extend our heartfelt condolences to their family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. We understand that this news may be deeply affecting and encourage everyone to support one another as we navigate through this period of grief. As we come to terms with this heartbreaking news, let us lean on one another and find strength in our collective spirit of resilience. Further, let us be extra cautious of the potential for disinformation that will only undermine the spirit of sportsmanship, resilience and commitment of Shabeer and all Trinitians. May the Lord of Life grant our dear son, student and friend the eternal reward. With deepest sympathy, 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥
