Winning 8 first innings out of 12 matches and securing one outright victory, the team displayed incredible consistency throughout the season. Though they lost the first innings in the final to Richmond College, their journey to the final showcased the immense strength of the squad. The season saw standout performances, with Master Malith Rathnayake leading the bowling attack, taking an extraordinary 102 wickets over the course of the season. A review by Master Nimuthu Pathiraja (Web Content Team) On the 23rd of March 2024, Trinity was warming to yet another momentous event in its college calendar, the 42nd Limited Overs Encounter against St’ Anthonys College. After an exhilarating match just the previous weekend which came down to the very last ball, the limited-overs encounter was approached with unprecedented excitement, anticipation and prospect, and Trinity well and truly lived up to the hype at the Katugastota Oval. Batting first. The Batting display of Trinity was truly an outstanding display of talent and dedication. The team managed to score 228 runs for 9 wickets, which was made possible with two special knocks by Master. Dimantha Mahavithana and Supun Waduge (55 and 56 runs respectively) with support from almost all of the batsmen. The bowling was no second to the batting, as exceptional resilience, grit and patience were highlighted by our bowlers. Master. Dinuka Thennakon and Tharana Wimaladharma were the stalwarts in the bowling section, claiming 3 wickets each with Master. Manula Kularathne, Malith Ratnayake and Supun Waduge also contributing with 3 wickets amongst them, ultimately resulting in the fighting Anthonians to subside at 128 runs all-out, resulting in a deserved win for Trinity College Kandy with an astonishing margin of 100 runs which earned them the Sir Richard Aluvihare Trophy. The Awards The following players who represented their Alma Mater were awarded for their commendable skills. Man of the match: Master. Supun Waduge Best Batsman: Master. Dimantha Mahavithana Best Fielder: Master. Janith Warnakula Their display of cricketing maneuvers, showered all those watching with joy, creating memories that will be cherished forever. (Reviewed by Rehan Anandakumar, Prawana Dissanayake, Krishiv Ekhaash) The 104th cricket encounter between TCK and St. Anthony’s College Katugastota: “Battle of the Blues” became the most looked forward to event for both schools, on the 15th and 16th of March 2024. Played at the Asgiriya Cricket Stadium, a historically renowned venue in the Hill Capital of our Island, the annual event comes alive with much hype and glory. A fully electrified atmosphere charged with the customary ‘papare’ beat and live music brought out the support of the student strength of the schools. Day one kicked off with Trinity winning the toss and opting to field. After an early breakthrough in the first over by Manula Kularathne, the excitement went quiet in terms of wickets. By the efforts of the captain, Thisara Ekanayake (63 runs) and Janith Rathnasiri (59 runs), The Eagles were able to end the day with a score of 232 for the loss of 9 wickets. Day two commenced with Anthonians being bundled out for 249 runs within the first hour, resulting in Trinity facing the new ball in swinging conditions in the morning. Despite the loss of two early wickets, Trinitians were able to build up a good partnership of 100 runs. With Viduka Dhammage scoring 70 runs, Trinity was halfway through the game. But due to the constant pressure built up by the Antonian bowlers, Trinity found themselves in a tough position. As the game stepped into the last hour, Trinity was left with only 2 wickets, still being a few runs short of 250 runs. With only 10 overs left to go, captain Manula Kularathne, who had been holding the fort for over 4 hours, got out, leaving TCK with only one last wicket. The last few overs were suspenseful, with all the fielders creeping in on the batsman, waiting for him to make a mistake. But the last pair was able to keep calm and batted out the remaining overs, hence, after a strong fight between both the teams the match was drawn, securing the trophy to Trinity College Kandy once more. We thank both the teams, coaches, umpires and students for their relentless support in making this year’s match a memorable one. TCK acknowledges the unstinted training and support rendered by the Head Coach Mr.Naveen Ekanayake, Assistant Coach Mr.Lakshitha Alahakoon and the MICs Mr. Brian Senarathne and Mr. Bandula Pushpakumara. We wish the team good luck for the upcoming year. Day 01 Day 02

In the end the lions managed to roar the loudest at the Under 19 All Island Division 1 Tier A Inter-School Limited Overs Tournament 2023 by winning back-to-back titles. In August 2023, the Trinity Cricketers passed on their journey to defend their remarkable 2022 victory in the U19 Division 1 Tier A Limited Overs Tournament. Master Manula Kularathne, serving as the captain, played a pivotal role in the 2022 season and was determined to ensure that their success continued. With the backing of his teammates, they initiated their campaign with the goal of securing a consecutive victory in the limited overs tournament. The Trinitians didn’t have their expected full side with the absence of their skipper Manula Kukarathne. Representing the Sri Lanka U19 side on a tour to Pakistan, skipper Manula Kularathne was unable to take part in the opening matches of the tournament. However, it was not a failure when the experienced Trinity in-stand captain Dinusha Peiris led the Trinity side to get into the knockout rounds, in which they looked on towards on what a repeat of their famous 2022 season would be. The Knockouts After defeating Mahanama College, Colombo by 8 wickets in the Quarters with the support of skipper Manula Kularathne’s 3-fer and Dinusha Pieris’s unbeaten knock of 78, Trinity advanced themselves into the semi-finals to face off against the mighty Royalists. An anticipated contest was disturbed by rain, but thanks to an amazing century by Sri Lankan youth cap Supun Waduge and a DLS win by 10 runs meant that Trinity was just one shot away from going back-to-back! One Final Push The Thurstan College Grounds took centre stage as Trinity was to face St. Joseph’s College Colombo in a thrilling final on the 21st of November. A ground which would bring back fond memories for the Trinitians as a year ago when they managed to capture the title in the 2022 season. It was no surprise that Trinity was running high on confidence and going into the final with high ego spirits to create history at the Thurstan College Grounds. Winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Trinity bowlers kept ticking off every St. Josephs batsmen who’d walk into the crease. One by one Trinity kept turning out wickets at regular intervals and just didn’t let the Josephians get the game going into their hands. A slight scare as a 47-run partnership was building for the 7th wicket, but Tharana Wimaladharama got the key wicket of his opposite number and as the wickets kept tumbling down, Trinity managed to get the Josephians all out for a modest total of 135. The Sri Lankan Youth Cap Tharana Wimaladharama ended up with figures of 3-22 in 9 overs supported by the 2 left arm orthodox bowlers in Dinuka Tennakoon and Malith Rathnayake scalping 2 wickets each. While skipper Manula Kularathne and right arm leg-spinner Jayavi Liyanagama got a wicket each. Thrills and Spills – a Rollercoaster Ride It is a known fact that cricket is a funny game and no matter what situation in the game you may be in, there is always a chance that play can favour even those in desperate times. In what would be a simple run chase under normal circumstances to score 136 runs in 50 overs, it was never ever an easy run chase. And what we were treated to next; left the crowd in awe. As the Trinity openers Viduka Dhammage and Vathila Udara set onto the field, the stage was set. The supporters cheering on in the background, hundreds of live telecast viewers, it was an absolute perfect way to start a run chase. But the Josephians thought otherwise, and a first ball duck for Viduka Dhammage caused everything to just pause… With a pumped up start from the Jospehians, they never looked back as Trinity lost 4 wickets for just 43 runs on the board. With Trinity requiring 93 runs with just 6 wickets to spare, there were no favourites at this point. It was anyone’s game. Trinity needed something special. Skipper Manula Kularathne and Supun Waduge had all eyes on them as they were against a pumped-up St. Joseph’s side, by the start they got. But with the cool and calm nerves of both batters, they built an important 56 run partnership for the 5th wicket, which settled the dressing room until Manula Kularathne was caught at point at which point Trinty was 99 for 5. With just another few more runs required with sufficient wickets in hand, it seemed that the rest would just be a walk in the park for in form batsman Supun Waduge who passed his all-important half-century. But just a few overs later Supun Waduge found himself lofting the ball right into the hands at long on departing for a magnificent knock of 60 and Rajindu Thilakarathne getting bowled in his second ball found Trinity at 111 for 7. A Rise to the Occasion! The tension was high. Everything was on the line. What looked like would be a good run chase for the Trinitians already found themselves in a spot of bother. But Jayavi Liyanagama and Tharana Wimaladharama stepped to the occasion and scored a valuable partnership of 22 which made Trinity just 3 runs shy. Although Tharana Wimaladharma found himself getting bowled, it was Dinuka Tennakoon who had a moment to savour by hitting the winning runs with a six to make Trinity to go back-to-back in the Division 1 Tier A Limited Overs Tournament! An eventful day with all kinds of emotions finally concluded. And the lions found themselves victorious once more defending their title at the Thurstan College Grounds. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the tireless efforts and unwavering dedication of the coaching and support staff, under the

On the 15th and 16th of February 2023, the most awaited 130th encounter between Trinity College Kandy and Royal College Colombo was held at Reid Avenue. The Trinitians were put into bat by the Royalists, which then Trinity did give a strong reply to. With an amazing century scored by the stylish opener Kusal Wijethunga supported by Jayavi Liyanagama’s 61 and captain Rahal Amarasinghe’s 48, Trinity scored a challenging total of 300 on Day 1. Royal’s openers started off well by going into stumps on day 1 on being 50 for no loss, but what happened thereafter turned out to be nightmare on day 2 for the Royalists. Trinity’s left arm spinner Dinuka Tennakoon rattled through the Royal line-up with incredible figures of 7 for 15 with the support of Tharana Wimaladarama’s 2 for 49, managed to get the Royalists all out for 108. With a lead of 192, the Trinitians forced the follow-on on the Royalists in sight of an outright win. In the end Trinity managed to get the Royalists all out in their second inning for 130 with Dinuka Tennakoon once again leading the attack with another five-wicket haul. Which he ended up with a match bag of 12 wickets. Trinity won the match by an inning and 62 runs which for the first time in history, did Trinity beat Royal College at Reid Avenue!
