A Global Stage for Student Ideas

The TED-Ed Club of Trinity College Kandy provides students with a unique platform to explore ideas, develop their voice, and share perspectives that matter. Licensed under the global TED-Ed Student Talks programme and operating as a segment of the Trinity College Technopreneurship Club, the initiative encourages students to think critically, communicate confidently, and engage in meaningful dialogue. Through a structured process aligned with TED-Ed guidelines, students are guided to shape original ideas into well-crafted talks that reflect insight, curiosity, and purpose.

Beyond public speaking, the TED-Ed Club nurtures skills that are essential for the modern world, including critical thinking, storytelling, collaboration, and intellectual confidence. Students participate in workshops, mentoring sessions, and peer discussions that help refine their ideas and presentation skills, while gaining exposure to a global community of young thinkers. The programme aims to create a safe, supportive space where students can challenge assumptions, express their viewpoints, and contribute thoughtfully to conversations that extend beyond the classroom.

What is TED-Ed Student Talks?

TED-Ed Student Talks is a global educational initiative that empowers students to develop and deliver original talks through a guided, mentor-supported process. Unlike debates or competitions, the focus is on ideas, clarity of thought, and authentic expression.

At Trinity College Kandy, students will follow the official TED-Ed Student Talks framework, learning how to:

  • Identify ideas worth sharing

  • Research and refine those ideas

  • Structure compelling narratives

  • Develop confidence in public speaking

  • Present ideas with purpose and clarity

Students who complete the programme will have the opportunity to deliver their talks at a curated school showcase, aligned with TED-Ed guidelines.

What You Will Gain

Participation in the TED-Ed Club goes far beyond learning how to give a speech. Students develop skills that are essential for academic success, leadership, and future careers, including:

  • Confidence in expressing ideas and opinions

  • Critical thinking and analytical reasoning

  • Storytelling and structured communication

  • Research and idea development skills

  • Collaboration and peer feedback

  • Intellectual curiosity and global awareness

The club provides a supportive environment where students are encouraged to challenge assumptions, refine their thinking, and grow both personally and academically.

Who Can Join?

The TED-Ed Club is open to Grade 6-14 students who are curious, thoughtful, and willing to engage with ideas, regardless of prior public speaking experience. You do not need to be an experienced speaker to join — just a willingness to learn, reflect, and participate.

Students from different interests and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Diversity of thought is a core strength of the programme.
