Haroon Aslam with a handicap level 2 became the first Trinitian ever to be named for the National Golf Team after his stunning performance at the National Ranking Tournament held recently. 19-year-old Aslam took to Golf nearly a decade ago and recorded his first victory in 2014, when he became the 2nd runner-up at the Victoria Golf & Country Resort Junior Golf Championship for Beginners. Currently he is an Advanced Level [IAL] student at Trinity.
Since then, there has been no turning back for Aslam who has taken part in all the key national tournaments such as the SL Golf Union Open Championships, Royal Colombo Golf Club Competitions, Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Championships, Diyatalawa Army Golf Club Championships, Victoria Golf & Country Resort Tournaments, and many other championships organized by the Mercantile sector of the country. In addition, Aslam has also participated in championships held in Indonesia, Malaysia, and India, where he managed to secure winning positions.
Aslam’s success dawned at the right time for Trinity, where the College recently commenced its Sesquicentennial Anniversary celebrations with a solemn resolve to expand the boundaries of holistic education, in academics, sports, cultural, and extra-curricular spheres. Keeping true to the theme of the anniversary celebrations, “Duc-in-Altum: Exploring Vistas of Excellence”, Haroon Aslam has become a torchbearer for spanning the boundaries of the sporting ethos of Trinity College, Kandy.
We wish Haroon Aslam great success when he tees off for Sri Lanka.
