The history of the Cadet Platoon of Trinity College Kandy dates back to 1902 AD, making it one of the first and prominent schools to establish a cadet platoon in Ceylon’s history. Trinity College, as a leading educational institution with long-established roots in its association and allegiances to the military establishments, had participated in combat action in the world arena as enlisted officers and other ranks in various theatres of war with their contributory participation in WWI and WWII.
The objective of the Cadet Platoon is to secure the dignity of the platoon with the help of the platoon’s Drill Instructor, Warrant Officer (Retd) A.M.G.G. Adikari, MIC, Maj. Waruna Samarasena, and Mr. Sampath Kumarasinghe. Moving forward with the aforementioned intention, the first task was to increase the headcount of their platoon. After much persuasion and canvassing, a limited group of boys voluntarily enrolled with the Cadet Platoon. The next step was a five-day training camp conducted at College Rugby Stadium in Pallekale. During this period, the instructor Mr. Adikari did a magnificent job by training and molding both old and newly enrolled cadets equally within a short period.
The Cadet Platoon commenced training despite adverse heat conditions, continuing their studies at midnight, sacrificing holidays, and waking up early in the morning, engaging in formal and extensive training for five consecutive days. As a result, they achieved 3rd place in the selection camp held for the 2nd Battalion of the National Cadet Corps at Rahula College Grounds, Katugasthota, on 10th April 2023.
This accomplishment was achieved by practicing for only five days while other schools had been practicing for months. Thanks to Mr. Adhikari, who made the impossible possible. By achieving this goal within such a short period of time, the Cadet Platoon sees this as just the beginning of a new long journey of Trinity College Cadeting.
The Cadet Platoon hopes to collaborate with their Drill Instructor, Mr. Adikari, the Masters in Charge, including Sgt. Kaushika Dissanayake, and the Rankers to make this year a remarkable one in the history of Trinity College Cadeting and the National Cadets Corps. Together, they aim to achieve their goal and create a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Special Thanks to the Sergeant, Rankers and Cadets who supported us to make this a success,
