The much anticipated rugby encounter between Trinity College Kandy and Zahira College Colombo, which was scheduled for the 29th July 2023, did not happen due to a number of players from the Trinity team falling sick at the last moment, causing much disappointment to the Trinity and Zahira Colleges along with the sports loving community of Sri Lanka and above all, the players who had prepared for months to display their skill and mettle as sportsmen. Reluctantly, the Principal of Trinity College had no option, but to pursue this course of action considering the overall wellbeing of the students (players) who had fallen sick. Principal of Zahira College too did not have any option but to play due to the rules governed by the tournament.
However, considering the longstanding cordial relationship between the two institutions and the anticipation of the players from both schools, we are in the process of exploring options to organize a separate rugby encounter with the two schools in the near future. This in turn will enable the players from both schools to display a good game of rugby in the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
We are resolved that with this latest move, the relationship enjoyed between the two institutions for nearly 100 years will further improve and become stronger. It is our sincere wish and prayer that this mutuality and collaboration would set an example to school sports in SriLanka.
