The Young Inventors’ and Researchers’ Club (YIRC) at Trinity College is a shining example of the College’s dedication to fostering innovation and intellectual growth among its students. Established in 2023, it has rapidly become an integral part of the school community.
YIRC held its Annual General Meeting on June 24, 2024, in Napier Hall, to transfer the leadership and other responsibilities of the club to the new committee. The meeting highlighted the club’s past achievements, introduced the incoming committee members, and outlined ambitious plans for the year 2024/2025.
Origin
The journey of YIRC commenced with the foundation being laid at the end of April and the start of May 2023. By May 22nd, 2023, a solid groundwork was established, leading to the first committee meeting on June 17th, 2023. This meeting marked the official start of the club’s operations.
Subsequently, on July 13th, 2023, at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Auditorium, the club held its inaugural meeting, bringing together minds full of ideas and setting the stage for its future.
Since that momentous day, our club has thrived, guided by a strong commitment to innovation. With each step forward, we continue to champion the spirit of creativity, leading our school toward a brighter future shaped by research and originality
Key Events and Projects
Over the past year, YIRC has initiated several significant projects and events:
– ALCS Project (June 30, 2023): The Automated Library Circulation System (ALCS) was initiated to modernize the library’s circulation system, streamlining operations and enhancing user experience.
– Inquisitive Minds Workshop Series (IMWS) (October 12, 2023, onwards): This ongoing workshop series was designed to foster curiosity and knowledge among students, providing hands-on learning experiences across various disciplines.
– Field Visit to the Department of Geography, University of Peradeniya (November 15, 2023): This visit offered members a unique opportunity to engage in university-level research and gain insights into advanced geographical studies.
– Research Symposium Preparation Workshops (IMWS) (May 27, 2024): These workshops are organized under Inquisitive Minds Workshop in Collaboration with the Library Council, which aims to prepare members for the Research Symposium, honing their research methodologies, data analysis, and presentation skills.
– YIRC FIRST EDITION
YIRC launched its first-ever magazine, a collaborative, intellectual product that has documented the history of the club and providing a platform for our members to showcase their skills. This magazine will be a testament to our journey and achievements, published as both limited printed copies and, an online publication by the end of 2024.
In addition to these initiatives, YIRC members actively participated in numerous competitions organized by other institutions in the fields of invention, innovation, research, and quizzes, showcasing their talents and determination.
