After proving its mettle in 2022 and knocking off the lid in 2023, Senkanda: The Forbidden Forest MTB Challenge, a time-trial cycling competition, has come back with another mouth-watering edition for 2024, set against the backdrop of Kandy’s lush wilderness. This event, to be held on the 14th of December, expects to see the participation of hundreds of cyclists from around the island.
The event borrows its name from the legendary Senkanda who is invoked as a god, known for his enthusiasm for adventure. The venue of the race is once more, the picturesque Udawaththakele Forest Reserve, known more popularly as the lungs of Kandy. Riders will have to traverse the greenery and the network of pathways of this reserve as they embrace a unique experience of competition blended with nature.
From Under – 10 to Open, Senkanda ’24 is an invitation for all age groups to display their hallmark strength and skills on a bicycle. The event is hosted by the Trinity College Cycling Club, of which the committee has been working tirelessly in collaboration with the Kandy Cycling Community, a demonstration of combined efforts in making a lively cycling culture but celebrating simultaneously the cultural heritage.
More than just a race, Senkanda ’24 is a journey across the historically drenched landscapes of Kandy, one that challenges the body and augments the soul. This is where legends come to life and the spin of the wheel reverberates with the pulse of history.
