On April 24, 2025, the School Social Service Union (SSU) launched a donation campaign for the devotees of the Dalada Maligawa, embodying their commitment to compassion and community service.
The program began at 9:30 AM near Kandy Rathu Bokkuwa and continued until about 1:00 PM. The initiative aimed to distribute basic nutrition and medical requirements to devotees who had to spend hours and days to witness the Dalada exposition.
A dedicated team of seven students, a teacher, and the SSU President joined hands for this event. With the help of a parent, Mrs. Nandasena, who provided transportation, the delivery process ran smoothly and harmoniously throughout the morning.
With support from Chinchilla Café, the team gathered 1,200 cream buns and prepared medicine packs to offer essential health support. Distribution was carried out respectfully and in an organised manner, fostering goodwill along the way.
This event not only brought relief to countless devotees but also served as a shining example of youth-led initiative, responsibility, and kindness. The SSU aspires to continue such efforts throughout the year, inspiring more students to embrace meaningful service.
It’s often the smallest gestures that leave the biggest impact. The team from the Social Service Union found satisfaction in a profound deed in helping the people at Dalada Dakma, with a minimalist budget.
