Fostering Leadership, Teamwork, and Confidence through Experiential Learning
On the 9th of July 2025, the Trinity College International Qualifications (TCKIQ) Section successfully conducted an Outbound Training Programme at the Trinity Eco Learning Arena (TELA) for the new cohort of Grade 12 students enrolled in the Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL) stream.
Organised as part of the Bridge Programme — designed to support students as they transition into the International A/L environment — the session ran from 8.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and was facilitated by Mr. Waruna Samarasena, in coordination with Mr. Mahesh Wijesekera, the Bridge Programme Coordinator.
The training focused on equipping students with vital soft skills that complement their academic journey, including:
- Teamwork and Collaboration
- Critical and Creative Thinking
- Effective Communication
- Leadership Development
- Self-Confidence and Trust Building
Throughout the day, the students actively engaged in a series of interactive and physically engaging challenges such as:
- Trust Falls and Trust Lifts – to build mutual trust and accountability
- Balloon Tower Challenge – to spark creativity and strategic thinking
- Active Listening Exercises – combining focus, coordination, and movement
- First Aid Awareness Session – to develop basic emergency response skills
- Individualised HAKA – empowering students to express identity and motivation
- Team Building Challenges – encouraging problem-solving through collaboration
- Group and Individual Presentations – enhancing public speaking and self-expression
This outbound session not only encouraged bonding among peers but also aligned with the holistic approach of TCKIQ, which prioritises character development alongside academic excellence.
As Trinity continues to strengthen its International Qualifications programme, activities like these play a key role in preparing students for both university life and the demands of the global workplace.
