The Young Inventors’ and Researchers’ Club (YIRC) of Trinity College, Kandy, recently hosted a workshop introducing the fundamentals of scientific research to the bright young minds of the College. The sessions took place on 9 September 2025 for Middle School students and 11 September 2025 for Upper School students.
The resource person for the Middle School workshop was Dr Viduranga Waisundara, while the Upper School sessions were conducted by Dr Gajaba Ellepola and Dr Saumya Bandara. The workshop also served as a foundation for the upcoming research symposium, ‘SYNERA ’25’, organised by the Young Inventors’ and Researchers’ Club.
During the junior workshop, students were assigned random topics to research, which they will later present at the symposium. Upper School students, meanwhile, were given the opportunity to choose their own topics and develop detailed research papers to be submitted for the competition at ‘SYNERA ’25’.
The sessions were engaging and interactive, guided by the expertise of Dr Waisundara, Dr Ellepola, and Dr Bandara. Members of the Academic Staff of the Science Faculty also played a vital role in ensuring the success of the programme.
By the end of the workshops, nearly eighty students from both Middle and Upper School had gained a clearer understanding of research and its relevance to everyday life. Trinity College extends its sincere gratitude to Dr Viduranga Waisundara, Dr Gajaba Ellepola, and Dr Saumya Bandara for their invaluable contribution. Appreciation is also extended to the Organising Committee of the Young Inventors’ and Researchers’ Club and the Academic Staff of the Science Faculty for their dedication in creating an inspiring and enriching learning experience.
