By Dilrukshan Sureshkumar (Web Content Team)

Trinity College, Kandy emerged as the Overall Champions at the 2025 Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation Novices Championships, held on 4, 5 and 6 October at Vijaya National School, Matale. Competing across Youth, Junior and Senior (Men and Women) categories, the Trinity weightlifting team secured a total of 28 points, reaffirming the College’s standing as one of Sri Lanka’s leading schools in the sport.

Trinity’s triumph was made possible through the commitment and teamwork of its weightlifters, who secured the following results:

Youth Category

  • Master Ravishka Dissanayake – Gold Medal, Youth 98+ kg
  • Master Kumath Epa – Silver Medal, Youth 98+ kg

Trinity’s commanding performance across all categories reflected excellent preparation, teamwork and commitment. This latest success follows a series of strong performances earlier this year at the National Championship 2024/25, the Central Province Weightlifting Meet, and the All-Island School Games. Each of these competitions helped build the team’s confidence and experience, setting the stage for their performance at the Novices Championships.

The team now trains intensively for their next major event: the National Weightlifting Championship. They aim to continue their winning momentum and bring further honour to the College.

Trinity College expresses sincere gratitude to Coach Mr Manjula Wijerathne and Master-in-Charge Mr Kamal Nissanka for their steadfast mentorship and leadership. Their guidance has been vital in nurturing the team’s growth.

This latest success marks another proud chapter in Trinity’s sporting journey. The spirit of perseverance, teamwork and discipline continues to shine through the achievements of our weightlifters.

As they prepare for the challenges ahead, the team stands united and confident, carrying forward Trinity’s rich legacy in weightlifting.

  • #TrinityAt154 In this reflection, Rev. Alexander Garden Fraser (Principal, 1904–1924) sets out a vision that shaped Trinity’s golden era.

He believed in grounding students in their mother tongue and culture while preparing them for the wider world, a philosophy he put into practice by introducing Sinhala and Tamil into the curriculum decades ahead of national mandate.
