At the All Island Inter School Weightlifting Championship organised by the Sri Lanka Schools’ Weightlifting Federation held from the 15th – 17th June 2024 at Pilimathalawa Central College, Trinity’s weightlifters excelled in their performance. Team TCK emerged champions among several schools from the Island. The team achieved an impressive haul of 11 medals in total, comprising 1 Gold Medal, 6 Silver Medals, and 4 Bronze Medals. Reviewed by Rehan Anandakumar (Web Content Team) After a thrilling display of strength, determination and exceptional skills, Trinity Weightlifters brought pride to the College at the Youth Junior, and Senior Novices’ Weightlifting Championship held from February 23rd to 25th, 2024, at G/Poddiwala National College in Poddiwala, Mathtaka The year 2024 began on a positive note for TCK’s weightlifters who emerged victorious in all age categories. The results are as follows: Under 17: Under 20: Senior For the first time in Sri Lankan Weightlifting history, the Under 13 weightlifting talent Identification Statement was introduced and, Danidu Sonath brought pride to his alma mater by achieving 30 kg in Snatch and 39 kg in Clean and Jerk. The competition showcased the extraordinary talent of the young Trinitians, securing the coveted first place in various categories. Under 20 Category: Under 17 Category: They clinched the title of ‘The Junior Championship (Men) 2023’ through their collective efforts, marking a significant achievement. The triumph underscores the commitment and diligence of every athlete, guided by Coach Mr. M. Wijerathne and backed by the steadfast support of Master-in-Charge Mr. Galagoda. Trinity College extends heartfelt congratulations to the weightlifting team on their outstanding achievements. Trinity College’s weightlifting team once again demonstrated their unrivaled dominance at the All Island Inter School Weightlifting Championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Weightlifting Federation. From July 1st to 3rd, 2023, the championship took place at Pilimathalawa Central College, where Trinity’s exceptional performance secured victories in multiple categories. In the under-16 age group, Yasan Kavsidu emerged victorious in the 81kg weight category. Continuing their winning streak, the under-18 division witnessed S.W. Angammana clinching first place in the 102kg weight category. Moving on to the under-20 category, Arya Solomons emerged triumphant in the 55kg weight category, while Abidh Jameel secured victory in the 73kg category. Senitha Karavita showcased remarkable strength in the 96kg category, claiming first place. Additionally, Sherwain Wavita and Hashendra Wijethilake dominated their respective weight categories of 102kg and 109kg. Yahadasun Ratnayake displayed outstanding prowess in the 109+kg category. In the second place positions, under-18 lifters Thisal Rajapakshe and P.D. Dissanayaka showcased their talent in the 49kg and 96kg weight categories, respectively. The under-18 division also witnessed F. Fazal securing third place in the 73kg weight category. J.L Peter rounded out the winning positions in the under-20 category, finishing in third place in the 81kg weight category. Master Yasas Kavsindu received the distinguished title of “best lifter” in the under-16 age category, showcasing exceptional skill and talent. With victories in both the under-18 and under-20 championships, Trinity College’s weightlifting team emerged as the overall champions of the competition. Trinity College Weightlifting team continues their great run in 2022 as the team comprehensively won the All Island Inter School Weightlifting Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Weightlifting Powerlifting Strength Building Federation. The meet was held on the 20th and 21st of August 2022 at M/Rajagiri Vidyalaya, Aranayake. The team has previously won the All Island Inter School Weightlifting Championship 2021 and the Junior Novices Weightlifting Championship 2022 so far in the year. The team bagged 15 medals in total which comprised of 7 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 5 Bronze Medals. The following lifters places 1st in their respective age and weight categories. The Trinity College Weightlifting team started their year late in 2019 but with a bang! The team was unable to participate in events earlier this year and this was their first one for 2019. The Kandy District Weightlifting Championship was held at the Kandy YMCA on the 20th of September. The Weightlifting Team, one of the most successful teams at Trinity in its recent past, put in a lot of hard work which helped them shine.
