RENOVATIO ’26 – All Under One Roof, One Faith, One Heart

On 12 September 2026, the Chapel of Trinity College became a place where young hearts, united by faith, gathered under one roof for RENOVATIO ’26, an initiative of the Student Christian Movement (SCM). More than an event, RENOVATIO was a celebration of Christian faith, fellowship, creativity and spiritual growth, bringing together students, teachers, parents and schools with one common purpose: to nurture and strengthen the spiritual lives of young people.

The event was conducted in two sessions, each contributing to the overall vision of RENOVATIO.

A Morning of Faith, Knowledge and Creativity

The first session began with an opening prayer led by the Chaplain, setting a meaningful tone for the day. Following the prayer, the inter-school competitions commenced at 9.00 a.m., bringing together students from several schools who responded enthusiastically to the invitation extended by the SCM.

Students from Girls’ High School, Kandy; Hillwood College, Kandy; Mowbray College, Kandy; Gateway College, Kandy; and Kingswood College, Kandy participated in the competitions, joining students of Trinity College in an atmosphere of healthy competition and Christian fellowship.

The competitions covered a wide range of talents and abilities, including Oratory, Creative Writing, Art, Sermon and the much-anticipated Bible Quiz. Each category provided students with an opportunity not only to demonstrate their abilities but also to express their understanding of faith and Christian values.

The Bible Quiz, in particular, generated curiosity and excitement among the participants. It challenged the students’ biblical knowledge while encouraging them to engage more deeply with Scripture. Throughout the morning, the Chapel was filled with enthusiasm, concentration and creativity as young people came together in faith.

An Afternoon of Celebration and Recognition

The second session began at approximately 2.30 p.m. and shifted the atmosphere from competition to celebration. The highlight of the afternoon was the certificate-awarding ceremony, where students who participated in the intra-school competitions across the Junior, Middle and Upper School levels, as well as students from the invited schools who took part in the inter-school competitions, were recognised and appreciated.

The ceremony celebrated not only achievement, but also participation, commitment and the courage to share one’s God-given talents.

Adding a spiritual dimension to the ceremony were musical presentations by students of the Junior School and Middle School. Their songs brought a change in the atmosphere and added a sense of joy to the gathering. Their performances reminded everyone that faith can be expressed not only through words, but also through music and creativity.

The Chapel was filled with students, staff members, teachers and parents from the participating schools. The presence of members of the wider school community reflected the unity that RENOVATIO sought to create.

All Under One Roof

Perhaps the most significant aspect of RENOVATIO ’26 was its ability to bring together people from different schools and different age groups under one roof and around one common faith.

The event was not simply about winning competitions or receiving certificates. It was about creating an environment where young Christians could meet, share their talents, learn from one another and experience the joy of belonging to a wider Christian community.

RENOVATIO was an initiative carried forward by the Student Christian Movement, with the collective effort of students, teachers and all those who worked behind the scenes to make the event possible. Their dedication helped turn an idea into a meaningful experience for everyone present.

At its heart, RENOVATIO carried a simple but important vision: to develop the spirituality of students and encourage them to grow in their relationship with God. It provided students with an opportunity to reflect on their faith, discover their gifts and grow together.

As the final certificates were presented and the programme came to an end, RENOVATIO ’26 left behind memories of competitions, performances and awards, as well as a reminder of what can happen when young people come together with faith, purpose and enthusiasm.

RENOVATIO ’26 became a gathering of young hearts, united under one roof, strengthened by one faith and inspired to grow spiritually together.

A Heartfelt Gratitude

No event of this scale could have been brought to life without the encouragement, guidance and support of many people. The SCM extends its deepest gratitude to our Vice Principal, Co-Vice Principal, Finance Manager and former Principal, Very Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara, as well as all the teachers who have always encouraged and supported us in bringing initiatives such as RENOVATIO to life. Without their encouragement, trust and support, this event would not have been possible.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to all our judges, who generously gave their time and expertise to make the competitions meaningful and fair: Rev. Anurudha Bandara, Rev. Parmini, Rev. Rukmal, Pastor Dimuthu Doluwatta, Pastor Lamindra, Rev. Upul Janaka Kurupuarrachi and Mrs Ruth Medagamgoda. Their presence and contribution added great value to RENOVATIO ’26, and we are truly grateful for their service.

Above all, our greatest gratitude belongs to God, who was with us from the very beginning to the very end. Through every step, every challenge and every moment of preparation, we experienced His guidance and presence. We give thanks to God for leading us, strengthening us and making RENOVATIO ’26 possible.

To God be all the glory, honour and praise.
