The Trinity Education Model Trinity, with its history and culture spanning over 150 years, is an ideal, aptly captured by her motto Respice Finem. When we strive to emulate this ideal personified in a living and dynamic community, we seek to cultivate the same mindset, character, and spirit that define that ideal. It’s about adopting a growth mindset that embraces challenges as opportunities alike, demonstrates empathy and compassion towards others, and fosters a sense of responsibility and accountability in all our endeavors. The Trinity education model consists of 10 sectors: Trinity Academy / Religious & Value Education Domain / Trinity College Core-Curricular Enrichment Initiative [TCCEI] / Arts for Life Aesthetic Forum / Sprit of Lions Sports’ Paradigm / Trinity College Boarding / Trinity EduCare Institute / Life Coaching & Well-being Domain / Trinity College Center for Excellence / College Administration. Trinity Academy consists of two qualifications: national and international. In the National Qualification public examinations, we have improved on our efforts from 2022. At the GCE [Ordinary Level] Examination 2022 held in May 2023, 97% qualified to enter the Advance Level, with 33 students obtaining 9As. At the GCE [Advanced Level] Examination 2022 held in February 2023, 65.2% of our students reached university entrance eligibility, with 28 students obtaining the elusive 3A grading. We congratulate all the students who excelled at these intensely competitive public exams. Trinity College International Qualification achieved 78.34% success [January – June – October] at the Pearson-Edexcel examinations. Reviewed by Nimuthu Pathiraja (PROMWEB) When the “T150 Project” was launched two years ago in recognition of Trinity’s Sesquicentennial anniversary, “The Trinity History project” was undoubtedly a key part of its’ celebrations. Highlighting the importance of celebrating a significant past, many committed, grateful and dedicated heads got together to successfully produce “The Trinity Story” in paperback and digital versions, rekindling Trinity’s unprecedented legacy. The historic moment was witnessed by many dignitaries including his Lordship the Bishop, the Board of Governors, The College Executive Council and Old boys. Therefore, in this years’ presentation of the Fraser Memorial Oration, a programme launched at celebrating Trinity’s excellence through the great Visionary principal, Mr. Alexander Garden Fraser. The key-note speaker of this years’ rendition of the Fraser Memorial Oration was none other than the man behind the Trinity History Project, Mr. M.V. Muhsin. Mr. Muhsin, being a proud Trinitian was the winner of the illustrious Ryde medal in 1962 and he was the senior prefect in 1963. After he left his alma mater, he started off as a chartered accountant. He managed to rise up the ranks soon, becoming a Group Director of Zambia’s mining conglomerate. Later he was appointed to the prestigious position of Vice President and Chief Information Officer at the World. Mr. Muhsin’s service to Trinity has truly been unprecedented. Mr. Mushin was who funded Trinity’s first IT Network and he is the founding patron of the TCK Washington OBA. He contributed with instrumental influence and effort to bring the “Trinity Story” to life by both funding this initiative entirety and taking up the key role of executive chair. It would be fair to state that Mr. Muhsin took us on a tour along the schools’ history during his speech. He shared some delightful stories of the past along with descriptions about the great members of staff we had in the past. His speech was truly inspiring, and we are forever grateful for his outstanding tales. Mr. Muhsin managed to paint a picture in our young minds, of how great a personality Mr. Alexander Fraser was. Next, within a historically significant moment in our history, the first copy of the “Trinity Story” was handed over to the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB. Following this, in another feat the new college digital history website was launched. The website was pioneered with the leadership of Dr. Romesh Ranawana. The winner of the Coveted Amunugama award, he currently serves as the Group Chief of Analytics and AI Officer at Dialog Axiata PLC and serves as the Chairperson of the National Committee on Artificial-Intelligence Strategy. The new digital website is an unparalleled commemoration of our history through technology. From Virtual-Reality tours to a complete archive of our prize lists, it is a work of art, none of this would have been possible without the leadership of staff members, the PROMWEB and the 50-student task force. Importantly, all of the proceeds of the “Trinity Story” will directly be provided to the College Archives. Truly immortalising Trinity’s legacy. The Digital History website can be viewed at https://history.trinitycollege.lk Afterwards, a Q & A session was held with the aim of increasing interaction in our history. Then, Tokens of Souvenirs were presented to Mr. M.V. Muhsin, Dr. Romesh Ranawana and Mr. Arjuna Ranawana for their outstanding dedication and commitment. The event concluded with the vote of thanks by Master. Abidh Jameel, The senior prefect. I think it is fair to state that this event successfully embodied our college’s legacy, and created resources to preserve our alma mater’s proud history for upwards of another 150 years. None of this would have been possible, however, without the contributions of many. We must thank the Executive director of the project, Mr. M.V. Muhsin, the Architect of the website Dr. Romesh Ranawana, the lead writer and editor Mr. Arjuna Ranawana. The College Executive Council including Principal Rev. Fr. Reviewed by Sulekshmie Bambaradeniya In a move to unsheathe the capacity of the College Management Team of TCK, and integrating TCK’s vision for 2024: to empower exploring vistas of excellence, embrace core values of integrity, Service, Excellence, and Resilience, focusing on 21st century skills, a four day workshop facilitated by Mr Paul Navamani, Co- Founder & Leadership Consultant at Leadership in Action (PVT) ltd, was conducted at Trinity Eco Learning Arena at Pallekelle. From the 22nd to 25th January, the staff eagerly awaited to board the bus that would transport them to Pallekelle. For four days, the management under the direction of the Vice Principal Mr Krishanthan Anthonydas, Co-Vice Principal Mr Ananda Marasinghe, Coordinator of Centre of Excellence Mr Shane De Silva and the Premises Manager Mr Sanjaya Rathnayake, meticulously organized the program that would help the members of the CMT to derive the best out of the workshop. The team comprised of members of the Junior, Middle and Upper School. It was an opportunity for many to get acquainted with people they have never spoken to. After a blessing, each session for the day began with invigorating warmups that kept the staff members fully awake, ready to absorb lessons that teemed with task and value based activities. Incorporating Mr John C. Maxwell’s time tested ‘Maxwell’s Leadership Principles’, Mr Navamani guided the 53 members present, through a journey of self-discovery, self-worth, and self-inquiry. From harnessing a positive attitude, to personal growth, priorities, and relationships, the CMT garnered valuable insights to respond to competitive tasks. There was laughter, overwhelming discoveries of the simplicity of some challenges that required a mere two seconds as proven in the mission: ‘creating a flying object’ that got the teams delving into the construction of paper planes, when all that required was a two second creation of a ‘paper-ball’. Furthermore, the members acknowledged how easy it was to oversee instructions when they disregarded a challenge that required a photograph of the team with the object in pursuit, and submitted pictures with only the object. It was an epiphanous moment that demonstrated how students rarely read instructions on most occasions and chiding them should happen with empathy. Mr Navamani corroborated maximum enjoyment in all the challenges that were open for competition, driving home the salient point that children need to enjoy their lessons. In the activity where the groups had to devise strategies to pass as many small objects as possible between their members, the winning team ended up having all the items in one bag, a clever strategy that brought peals of laughter among the rest of the groups. Each challenge had its power-embedded message to be followed up in the future. The facilitator established an impenetrable contract among the participants to never discount themselves, others, others’ ideas, or a follow-up. The roundtable coaching and discussions that followed each session paved the way for multiple learning opportunities that revolved around TCK’s vision for 2024. Each session also had feedback and an overall review via a Google Form. Most importantly, The giant tamarind tree under which the discussions were conducted, and the sun kissed outdoor activities were a welcoming move that sustained the facilitator as well as the team members. TELA is surrounded by a pristine environment that requires appreciation and sustenance. Walking about in nature during the short breaks was therapy to the body and soul. Undoubtedly, CMT is thankful to Mr Navamani for opening the doors to learning through discovery. Similarly, CMT is grateful to Mrs Nimali Jayasekara curator of TELA, and her husband Samith as well as Mr Susantha Senarathna TCK Farm Manager for their unstinted cooperation in facilitating the environment with positive vibes. CMT is indebted to the Principal Rev Araliya Jayasundara, Vice Principal Mr Krishanthan Anthonydas and Co-Vice Principal Mr Ananda Marasinghe for enabling them to hone their skills in managerial maneuvers to serve TCK with resilience and excellence. A humble appreciation goes out to the organizers of the event: Mr Ananda Marasinghe, Mr Sanjaya Rathnayake & Mr Shane DeSilva, for the foolproof precision in which the planning was executed. The College Media Unit is deeply appreciated for their commitment in capturing happy moments that would add to the developmental portal of the college in the years to come. CMT looks forward to more sessions that would extend to the rest of the college community.

As students collectively worked on building their robots, they encountered and tackled challenges together, fostering a collaborative spirit that mirrors the dynamics of the evolving field of AI development and implementation. The presence and expertise of Chamath Kandambi, Yuneth Wijenake and their team added a significant dimension to the workshop. Their guidance not only enriched the theoretical sessions but also provided valuable insights into the practical applications of AI in the real world. Students had the privilege of learning from industry experts, gaining a perspective that extends beyond textbooks and into the cutting-edge developments in the field. The showcase event at the culmination of the workshop, held on December 14th, was a celebration of innovation and ingenuity. Each group presented their uniquely designed and assembled robots, showcasing not only technical proficiency but also the practical applications of AI in addressing real-world challenges. The pride and enthusiasm radiating from the students during this showcase were a testament to the success of the workshop in igniting a passion for AI and robotics. Beyond the technical aspects, the workshop also underscored Trinity College Kandy’s commitment to providing a holistic education. Education at our institution goes beyond the transmission of knowledge; it is about fostering a spirit of innovation, critical thinking, and adaptability. The AI workshop, with its emphasis on experiential learning, aligns with our vision of preparing students not just for current academic challenges but for the ever-evolving landscape of the future. Looking ahead, TCK is poised to continue the journey into innovation. The success of the AI workshop serves as a catalyst for future initiatives that push the boundaries of education and technology. Our commitment towards providing an environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and technological literacy remains unwavering. In conclusion, the AI workshop at Trinity College Kandy was more than an event; it was a testament to our dedication in shaping well-rounded individuals ready to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the future. Join us in celebrating not just the success of the workshop but the ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation at Trinity College Kandy—a place where education extends beyond boundaries and where the future is shaped by the relentless pursuit of knowledge and discovery.

Reviewed by Chaniru Senhas (Web Content Team) Annually, Trinity College, Kandy, celebrates the beginning of the Church year with tremendous fervour; unfolding the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, a spiritual pilgrimage to welcome Christmas. Integrated with music, insightful biblical lessons demonstrate gratitude to God. Blessed with months of preparations and meticulous planning, the Trinity College Choir is at the pinnacle of this revered event. The heart and soul of TCK, the candle lit Chapel is a sight to behold as night falls. Choral singers of the choir, with candles in their hands, lead in a procession from the Principal’s bungalow, down the curvy drive to the Chapel. The gentle peal of the Chapel bell contributes to this ethereal ambiance. Like every year, the Chapel ground was tastefully decorated with glowing clay-lamps representing The Star, on the green grass and, an enlarged creation of the illuminated manger by the pond. This creative interpretation brought the Nativity story to life. The beautifully curated display invited reflection and appreciation of the story of Christmas. Symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem, the cradle played a significant role in this celebration. Light is symbolic of the banishment of darkness in both physical and metaphorical sense. The choir and clergy processed from the West Door to the Chancel while “Once in Royal David’s City,” the processional hymn, opened the service. Then came the Bidding Prayer and the choir’s performance of “Of the Father’s Love Begotten.” The hymn blended in with “All My Heart This Night Rejoices,” after a chorister read the First Lesson, which described God’s message to the sinful Adam about the loss of Paradise and the hope of salvation through his seed. As the choir began to sing “Veni Veni Emmanuel,” the congregation stood in reverence. A College Prefect read the Second Lesson, which enunciated God’s promise to faithful Abraham and the blessing of all nations by his descendants. This lesson was accompanied by the hymns, “Dev Kumaru Ipadunu” and “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen”. The singing of “See Amid the Winter’s Snow”, which the first verse was sung solo by a young chorister and the second verse was sung by an older chorister which was later followed by the soothing voice of an old boy chorister which was then later followed by a guest reading the Third Lesson, which contained an Isaiah prophecy of the birth and kingdom of Christ. The Head Mistress of the Middle School, read the Fifth Lesson, while the Headmistress of the Junior School read the Fourth Lesson. Readings of the sixth and seventh lessons were alternated between the Vice Principal and, the Co-Vice Principal. Following the reading of the eighth lesson by the principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, the choir sang “Jesus Child.” The Bishop of Kurunagala read the last section of the ninth lesson. The biblical stories of the day then came to an end with the recessional “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” The College Art Circle, under the direction of Mr. Saman Rathnayake and his team, made a pleasant visual contribution to this year’s Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, along with the teachers of the junior school who contributed much of their time towards the wonderous interior decorations inside the chapel. After the much-anticipated dinner presented to the Trinity College Choir by the Principal, Rev. Araliya Jayasundara, and the choir thanking him for his generosity, A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols for the year 2023, came to an end.
