Class of 2013: Giving Back to Alma Mater

In a heartwarming reunion, the Trinity College Kandy – Class of 2013 recently gathered to commemorate the milestone of their 10-year anniversary since graduating from their beloved alma mater. The event was not only a celebration of time passed but also an opportunity for these former students to show gratitude to the school that shaped their formative years.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

The reunion was led by the President, Poorna Dahanayake, who was joined by Shahim Singalaxana, the Secretary, Heshan Leuke, the Treasurer, Akila Senanayake the Vice President 1, and Mayuran Shanmugarajah Vice President 2. Alongside them, fifty other batchmates enthusiastically joined the nostalgic gathering, rekindling the strong bonds that were formed during their time at college.

The day began with a heartfelt Chapel Service, where the returning alumni sought blessings for the journey, they embarked on, ten years ago. The presence of distinguished guests, including Principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, Vice Principal Mr. Krishanthan Antonydas, Co Vice Principal Mr. Ananda Marasinghe, and representatives from the Trinity College Kandy – Old Boys Association, namely Mr. Shane De Silva and Mr. Shayan Abeyratne, added a touch of nostalgia and significance to the occasion.

Gratitude through a Donation

One of the highlights of the event was an admirable initiative to give back to their school community. The alumni organised an electrical appliance donation program at Alison House Boarding, aimed at enhancing the living conditions of current hostellers.

This benevolent gesture underlined the commitment of the Class of 2013 ensuring that the students following in their footsteps have access to better facilities and a more comfortable stay.

Adding a unique touch to the occasion, Mr. Leshan Abeyratne, a member of the class, generously contributed his “Personal RSM – Warrant Officer Class One items” to the College Archives & Museum. This act of preserving history allowed the batch to connect the past with the present, creating a tangible link between their own experiences and those of future generations.

Rekindling Memories and Cherishing Bonds

The day wasn’t just about formal proceedings; it was also an opportunity for the entire batch to relive the cherished memories of their school days. As they roamed along the familiar corridors, revisited classrooms, and strolled through the school grounds, laughter and camaraderie filled the air. Meeting with former teachers, mentors, and staff members, the alumni had the chance to express their gratitude for the valuable lessons imparted and the guidance they received during their time at Trinity College.

The reunion event of the Class of 2013 served as a testament to the enduring bonds formed during their school years. It showcased the commitment of these old boys to making a positive impact on their school community and their dedication in preserving the legacy of their alma mater.

As the day came to an end, the batchmates departed with hearts full of gratitude, memories reignited, and a promise to keep their connections alive, ensuring that the spirit of Trinity College continues to thrive through their efforts and dedication.
