Read MoreThe Middle School comprises Grades 6 to 9, with each grade consisting of eight parallel classes. The four years that each student spends in the Middle School are a significant part of their educational journey.
The academic programme includes seven core subjects: Vernacular (Sinhala/Tamil), Link Language (English), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Religious Education, and Aesthetics. Additionally, students can choose from supplementary subjects, including Sinhala and Tamil as National Languages, and French and Japanese as Foreign Languages. Other subjects include Health and Life Competencies, ICT, Physical Training, Swimming, Library Studies, and Co-Curricular Activities.
Since the pandemic, the teaching and learning process has transitioned to an online format via MS Teams. Both teachers and students have adapted well to this new system, with assessments, monthly tests, and examinations now conducted online.
Core subjects are assessed through a combination of assignments, assessments, monthly tests, half-yearly examinations, and promotion tests (both formative and summative). Additional subjects are evaluated through graded assignments and projects.
Sports play a crucial role in a child’s growth and development, and each student is encouraged to participate in at least two sports. The Middle School is divided into five houses: Gibson, Saunders, Pilcher, Sahayam, and Squealery, with every child assigned to a house. The Inter-House Athletics Meet takes place in the first term of each year, allowing students to compete in a spirit of healthy competition, learning to embrace both victory and defeat. Throughout the year, various Inter-House tournaments are held in rugby, football, basketball, hockey, scrabble, chess, and swimming, along with quizzes and debates.
Annual Language Days and competitions provide a platform for students to showcase their talents, culminating in the celebration of the Sinhala/Tamil New Year. At Trinity, we embrace diversity—there is no distinction of caste, creed, religion, or ethnicity. We celebrate unity and harmony as one big family.
Inter-House competitions in drama (in English, Sinhala, and Tamil) are organised throughout the year, offering students the chance to demonstrate their abilities. We recognise and celebrate student achievements during the Annual Prize Day, held every March.
With a holistic approach to education, we strive to encourage students to become self-directed as they transition from childhood to adolescence.
