The 37th Fifty Over Encounter between Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College was held on the 24th of March, 2018, at the St. Anthony’s College Cricket Stadium, to a large audience of both schoolboys, old boys, dignitaries and spectators. Captaining the Trinity side was Master Hasitha Boyagoda, with the St. Anthony’s side led by Master Janidu Himsara.
Trinity won the toss and elected to bat first, Hasintha Jayasooriya and the skipper Hasitha Boyagoda being the first batsmen to enter the pitch. Play began at 9.45 am, and Trinity scored 53 runs before the first wicket fell. In this fashion, Trinity went on to amass a mammoth score of 305 runs for the loss of 7 wickets within their 50 overs. Contributing to the score were Pubudu Bandara with 29, Hasintha Jayasuriya with 41, Abhishek Anandakumar with 46, Thisaru Dilshan with 47, and Hasitha Boyagoda with 109 runs, making him the first ‘Trinitian’ to score a century in the history of the Richard Aluwihare Trophy limited over match.
After the lunch break, the Anthonian batsmen took their places at the crease, and began their chase. Their first wicket fell after a few overs and 17 runs, setting the tone for the rest of the match. The Anthonians posted a final score of 156 runs before being bowled out, ensuring a Trinity victory of 149 runs.
The best batsman and man-of-the-match awards were claimed by the Trinity captain Hasitha Boyagoda, and the Sir Richard Aluwihare Trophy was awarded to Trinity College Kandy for the third consecutive year.
