Central Province Weightlifting Championship 2018(Schools)
The Trinity College Weightlifting team led by Bevishan Wijewickrama reigned supreme as they were judged ‘Overall Champions’ in the Central Province Schools Weight Lifting Championship held at the University of Peradeniya on 5th of June 2018.
The Trinity College weightlifting team made their alma mater proud by achieving an impressive haul of 18 Medals (9 Gold Medals ,6 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals):
The following lifters won Gold
- M.L. Mayadunne(U20, 56kg weight class)
- K.A.R.K. Karavita(U18, 69kg weight class)
- B.J. Wijewickrama(U20, 85kg weight class)
- G.G.K.J. Gamage(U20, 77kg weight class)
- P.D. Jayasuriya (U 20, 94kg weight class)
- P.B. Wijethilake (U20, 105+kg weight class)
- N.C. Ekanayake (U20, 105kg weight class)
- M. Wickramasekara (U16, 77kg weight class)
- E. Bodhinarayana (U18, 94kg weight class)
The following lifters won Silver
- A.M. Jameel(U16 , 50kg weight class)
- R.M.R.Y.Y.B. Rathnayake(U16, 77kg weight class)
- N.T. Jayakody(U20, 62kg weight class)
- D.R. Tennekoon (U20, 105+kg weight class)
- S.O. Gunawardane (U20, 77kg weight class)
- N.T.D. Rajaratnam (U20, 85kg Weight Class)
The following lifters won Bronze
- J. Rahul (U18, 77kg weight class)
- A.W.U.L. Thilakarathne(U18,69kg Weight class)
- D. Herath (U20, 69kg weight class)
Ministry of Sports: XLIV National Sports Festival 2018 – Inter District Sports Competition – Central Province (Open Meet)
Although this being an Open Meet, the Weightlifters from Trinity won four Medals in the Inter District Sports Competition (Central Province Open Meet) which was held in the same venue as the Schools Championship on the 30th of May 2018.
The following lifters won medals competing against ‘the best’ in the province,
- B.J Wijewickrama (2nd Place -85kg Weight Class)
- K.J Gamage (2nd Place -77kg Weight Class)
- N.T Jayakody (3rd Place -62kg Weight Class)
- E.R Bodhinarayana (3rd Place -94kg Weight Class)
The team now aims to retain their title, the All Island Schools Weightlifting Championship that they won last year under the guidance of Coach, Mr. M. Wijerathne and M.I.C. Mr. K.B. Galagoda.
