The Islamic Students’ Movement organized its 48th Annual General Meeting ‘AL-HUDHA’ on the 26th of October at the College Main Hall under the patronage of Chief Guest, Mr J.A.M Bashith and the Guest of Honour, Mr Ruzni Ramzeen. The Islamic Students’ Movement of Trinity College Kandy has a very long history. From its inception, the society has been an inspiration to others by showing the importance of religious harmony and respecting other faiths.
Many days of preparation was the key to the success of this years AGM . An inter-school competition was organized before the AGM by the Islamic Students’ Movement, where over 500 students from many schools participated. The competition comprised of oratory, essay, quirath (Islamic recital), azan (Islamic prayer call), quaseedha (Islamic songs), calligraphy, media presentation, solo song and quiz.
The committee also organized an inner-school competition where our own boys at Trinity were able to express their talents. The committee was pleased with the enthusiasm shown by the number of students participating in this event.
The AGM played to an audience of over 400, which included parents, students from other schools, teachers and well-wishers. The event commenced with a ‘Quran’ recital by Master M. Nusky and Master Umar Manzil. The recitals were followed by the welcome speech by the committee President, Master Anan Manzil. Master Ammar Manzil entertained the crowd with a nasheed (islamic song). This was followed by a skit that was eagerly awaited by many. The whole event was enlivened by a spectacular eye-catching backdrop.
The winners of the inner-school and inter-school competitions were given awards by the Principal and the Chief Guest.
The overall results of the inter-school competitions are as follows,
- 1st place – Aql International College
- 2nd place – Badiuddeen Mahmud Girls College
- 3rd place – St. Anthony’s College, Kandy
The Islamic Students’ Movement would like to thank the Chaplain, Principal and Vice Principal, for all their support to make this event a success. Not forgetting their inspiring Master-in-charge Mr M.J.M. Sufiyan for all the support throughout the year.
