The 8th of December saw a unique set of visitors at the College Main Hall, straight from the forest. The Young Explorers’ Club of Trinity College organized an awareness programme on Snakes of Sri Lanka in association with The Young Explorers’ Society of Sri Lanka.
The programme included a look back into the past activities of the relatively new club, followed by a series of informational speeches by members of the Young Explorers’ Society of Sri Lanka. The speeches and presentations included information regarding different breeds of snakes that live in Sri Lanka , along with the information of their habitats as well as their venomous nature. Not only that, but the students were also enlightened on how to handle such a friend from the forest in case of an emergency situation where a snake has entered the household as well as the first-aid procedures in case of snake bite.
The most important element of the workshop was when the students got a live experience of these creatures when they got touch and feel a ‘’Katakaluwa’’ as well as witness a giant ‘’Cobra’’ live on stage. We are immensely thankful to the Young Explorers’ Society of Sri Lanka for their support and cooperation to this event. We would like to also thank Mr. Kusal Perera as well as Mrs.Imali Daskon for their guidance and support. The Young Explorers’ Society intends to bring more of such interactive activities for the students to learn more about the beautiful nature around us.
