Academic excellence has long stood at the heart of life at Trinity College, Kandy. On Tuesday, 19 May 2026, the College gathered to honour a distinguished group of students who achieved three ‘A’ passes at their first attempt in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination 2025.
The special felicitation ceremony was held during the morning assembly to recognise these young Trinitians, celebrating not only their outstanding examination results, but also the discipline, perseverance and commitment to learning that made those achievements possible.
The ceremony was attended by the students’ parents, who were warmly welcomed to the College as partners in this achievement. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, presided over the proceedings and presented awards to each of the 3A achievers, reaffirming the College’s commitment to recognising academic distinction.
The achievers, recognised by subject stream and district ranking, are as follows:
Biological Science
Physical Science
Particular distinction was noted in the achievement of Master D. G. H. Abeygunarathne of the Biological Science stream, who secured first place in the district and fifth place island-wide, a remarkable accomplishment that brought honour to the College.
Each award presented by the Principal served not merely as a token of recognition, but also as an affirmation of the dedication shown by the students and their families throughout their Advanced Level journey.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal, Very Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara (Prior OSB) reflected on a dimension of success that often goes unspoken. He observed that academic achievement, meaningful as it is, should never come at the cost of one’s values or responsibilities towards family. Referring to the journeys of many high-achieving students who move far from home to pursue higher education, he reminded the young Trinitians that true excellence is measured not by results alone, but also by the character one carries into the world.
He encouraged the achievers to remember the parents who sacrificed quietly and waited patiently at home, and to ensure that, in pursuing their futures, they never leave behind those who made those futures possible. His address served as a timely reminder that value education remains central to a Trinity education, and that the College’s aspirations for its students extend well beyond academic attainment.
Sincere gratitude was expressed to the parents for their unwavering support and encouragement, and to the academic staff whose guidance at every stage formed the foundation upon which these results were built.
The occasion also served as an inspiration to the wider College community, reminding students that sustained effort and a genuine love for learning can lead to achievements that extend far beyond the examination hall.
As these young Trinitians embark on the next chapter of their lives, may the values of discipline, integrity and excellence continue to guide them, and may they always carry with them a deep gratitude for those who supported them from the very beginning.
