The annual “Muththamizh Vizha” conducted for the 104th consecutive year

The Muththamizh Vizha organized by the Tamil Literary Union [TLU] was held on May 4th at 4 pm in the college main hall under the patronage of the Chief Guest Prof. Thurai Manoharan, retired head of the Tamil Department, University of Peradeniya

The event showcased the talents of the students ranging from singing, dancing, music and various other cultural items celebrating the Tamil Hindu footprint at Trinity College, celebrating the true essence of beauty in diversity. In addition to the creative display of young Trinitians, the ceremony was also to acknowledge the achievements of intra-school and inter-school prize winners.

The highlight of the event was the launch of the Champion Shield and the “Thirithodhayam” magazine.

The ceremony paid homage to Tamil language, culture, and tradition while maintaining a respectful and inclusive atmosphere. The awards ceremony stood out, recognizing deserving individuals for their contributions to the community and commitment to upholding values.

Led by President Master Akif Faiz, the 2022 committee did an excellent job executing the event, which marked its 104th consecutive year of success. With meticulous planning, the college main hall was beautifully decorated to create an ancient Hindu cultural atmosphere, and the enthusiastic ambiance uplifted everyone’s spirits. The organizing committee dedicated significant effort to ensure every aspect of the ceremony was flawlessly executed. From the decorations to the program, attention to detail was evident, creating a truly memorable experience for all attendees.

The Tamil Literary Union (TLU) consists of Tamil students and staff of college. TLU was established in the year 1919 when a meeting was held with Mr. A.M.K. Coomaraswamy (staff member) in the chair with 49 students and 10 teachers. The Union was formed in the idyllic era of Trinity, under the auspices of Principal Rev. A. G. Fraser. It was first called the Trinity College Tamil Literary Union or ‘Thamil Kalvi Abiviruthi Sangam’ and as times evolved, adopted the name Tamil Literary Union.

Thanks to the dedicated teachers and efficient committee, the event was an overall success. Their hard work and dedication resulted in a memorable occasion that will be cherished for years to come. The event served as a great platform to acknowledge the boys’ efforts and motivate them to strive for even greater achievements.
