Train Hard & Live Long – Crossfit relaunches at Trinity

By Sathira Marahela (Web Content Team)

The CrossFit Program at Trinity College Kandy is set to relaunch on the 28th of  February 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in the College Main Hall, with Dr. Duminda Silva as the chief guest and Dr. Niroshan Jayaratne as the health advisor. This marks a renewed commitment to fitness and well-being among students.

With the launch of the CrossFit Program at the Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium in April 2023, Trinity College Kandy embarked on an innovative initiative to improve the physical fitness of its students. In response to the growing concerns surrounding non-communicable diseases and declining fitness levels, the program has provided an effective solution for students to build endurance, strength, and overall wellness.

The training sessions, held from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m, incorporate a blend of weight training, calisthenics, cardio workouts and field activities. The program’s diversity makes it accessible to students of all fitness levels, whether they are competitive athletes or an average student. The CrossFit programme can cover you

A key figure behind the success of the CrossFit Program is Mr. Bandula Pushpakumara, a highly experienced physical educator and former athlete. With a Diploma in Exercise Science from the University of Peradeniya and a history of competing at both national and international athletic events, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise. His personalised training approach has helped students to adopt an active lifestyle that significantly reduces the risk of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

Beyond its impact on athletic performance, the program plays a crucial role in promoting overall health. Regular exercise is known to improve cardiovascular health, enhance metabolism, and boost mental well-being. Research has shown that structured fitness routines like CrossFit can help in reducing stress, improving concentration, and fostering better sleep patterns.

Looking ahead, the CrossFit Program plans to expand its reach by hosting fitness events and workshops that educate students on proper nutrition, injury prevention, and long-term fitness habits. With the leadership of President Nilanga Meegahakumbura and Vice-President Avishka Wanigasekara and master Abeetha Elahena the initiative continues to evolve, ensuring that Trinity College remains at the forefront of youth fitness and well-being.

The relaunch of the program marks an exciting opportunity for students to embark on a journey toward better health. Whether aiming to enhance athletic performance or seeking a healthier lifestyle, the CrossFit Program offers the ideal platform to develop lifelong fitness habits. Join us and become part of a movement that prioritises strength, endurance, and overall well-being!
