A Year of Delicacies

Writeup by Nimuthu Pathiraja (Web Content Team)

2024 was a very special year for the Culinary Club. It was 12 months of not only preparing tasty dishes but also celebrating the art of cooking. These memories and achievements were celebrated and savored as the evening set on the 11th of February when the 3rd Annual General Meeting of the club was held at the college auditorium.

Notably, 2024 included the following significant achievements, including a Mahaweli Reach workshop in April, where Mr. Rodney Armstrong and Flt. Lt. Subodha Angammana provided members with information on how each area—housekeeping, the front office, food and beverage department, and the kitchen—functions, down to the finer details such as setting the duvets and prepping the ingredients.

Another remarkable highlight was the anticipated inter-house culinary competition, which was full of intense competition as houses raced to become victors. The appetite for those present was fulfilled by the student-prepared meals.

The Club was also felicitated for multiple achievements at the Culinary Champions’ competition 2024 held at Sahas Uyana, with Trinity College standing out as the only school participating in such a high-caliber setting. Trinity’s young cooks displayed outstanding talent by winning many accolades in a variety of competitions. The club bagged 2 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals.

Throughout the year, the club was active in the entire school, ensuring that the bake sale at the Children’s Day food stall was of great quality. Furthermore, at the Christmas fiesta, the main goal of this venture was to raise funds for philanthropic means to brighten up the festive cheer. Members presented a range of items they had prepared, from cookies to mocktails.

Moreover, the club was recognised as the most innovative co-curricular activity at the Special Awards 2024. Among all these accolades, the successful committee of the previous year handed the chefs’ hat to the next generation of eager members, with the following committee under the talented leadership of the Teacher-In-Charge, Mrs. Indika Hettiarachchi:

President – Menath Kahapola
Secretary – Abdul Rahman
Vice President – Sathnidu Dissanayake
Assistant Treasurer – Asama Ranawana
Web and Media Coordinator – Minindu Nawarathne
Assistant Secretary – Matheesha De Silva

Welfare Officers
Shaluka Herath
Eshan Marasinghe
Themiya Wanigarathne
Nethula Hettihewage
Nisija Nimalasena.
Navindu Karunarathne
Yasiru Bandara
Sanuka Illangasekara

As the much-awaited AGM wrapped up, new and promising faces lit up the inarguably promising future of the Culinary Club, with those who promise to share love through food.
