Invicta ’25: A Celebration of Young Scientific Talent and Innovation at Trinity College

By Chanuth Koswatte (Web Content Team)

The annual Science day of Trinity College Kandy, stands as a testament to those who care to make Earth a better place. Known as Invicta ’25, The Science Day, is a journey through science and innovation:  Through the hard work of students and teachers alike from multiple different schools, a magnificent event was put forth to showcase how wonderfully science, creativity, and ingenuity can collaborate.

The event commenced with a solemn address of the Principal Rev. Araliya Jayasundara OSB. Later, the keynote speaker for the day, Professor Nalaka Subasinghe spoke about renewable energy, through a carefully curated presentation. Subsequently, awards were presented to students from visiting schools as well as from Trinity for their passion for inquiry and creative thinking. Then,  a token of appreciation was presented to the esteemed guest and keynote speaker, Professor Nalaka Subasinghe by the Principal Father Araliya Jasundara OSB. The invitees and the visitors then proceeded to the Napier Hall to look at the exhibits.

The entrance to the Napier hall was packed, and there was excitement in the air with students discussing about how they created their respective exhibits and how they operated. Among the creations were, Nest and Nibble, an exhibit organised by the ornithology club of Trinity,  a telescope made by a student in just a month and a half, an AC powered by thermoelectricity, a machine that generated biogas and solar energy from waste management that benefits homes, a potentially life-saving robot that moves in all directions, and fits into narrow spaces that a human cannot get in.

The students of the Science Society are grateful to the advice, direction and support extended to them by the Principal, Father Araliya Jasundara OSB, the Head of the Science Faculty of TCK, Mr Prabath Gunarathne, and teachers.  They sincerely thank the students and teachers from visiting schools and their inventions that added glamour to the event.
