Creativity is something that provokes the minds of young students. Unfortunately, sometimes there is a palpable failure to recognise this incredible, untapped perspective that is unique to everyone. However, a workshop unfolded the hidden creativity in young attendees. Held in collaboration with the Centre for Excellence featuring former Design Club president, Mr. Kelum Gamage – a senior creative designer with international experience, the workshop was designed to ignite bold ideas, emotional intelligence and self-expression through art.
On the afternoon of Monday, 26th May 2025, the entrance to Napier Hall was packed with excitement as students discussed how the session would proceed. As everyone took their seats, the event was addressed by the Director of the Co-Curricular Enrichment Initiative (TCCEI) at Trinity College, Mr Wasana Dissanayake. This was followed by the engaging introduction of the speaker Mr Gamage who aided the attendees to stay connected to the programme throughout the session.
There is a crucial difference between a boring lecture and an insightful learning session. An insightful session is essential, as it includes aspects like connections, active communication and ever-growing curiosity. These were some of the key aspects the student participants learnt and practised throughout the session as creative thinkers.
From the very beginning, Mr. Gamage was active and interactive, subtly capturing the attention of his audience. He then spoke about passion and how it influences our quality of life. This life lesson resonated with everyone, providing both a lamp and a map to navigate the dark, mysterious, ever-changing path of life. But he wasn’t done yet – he also guided the students on how to pursue their passions. This lit up their path, guiding them through life’s uncertainties and showing them how to reach their destinies successfully.
The session didn’t only focus on life advice. Students were taught about colour contrast, alignment and graphs, visual hierarchy, typography, and more. He covered the key aspects of design, revealing major industry secrets and explaining how company logos are carefully crafted to attract customers.
As the excitement reached its peak, Mr. Gamage’s keynote presentation concluded the event with a perfect finish. We are deeply grateful for Mr. Gamage’s hard work and dedication to this event. We also extend our gratitude to the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jasundara OSB, Vice Principal, Director of the College Co-Curricular Enrichment Initiative (TCCEI), Mr Wasana Dissanayake and all the teachers who gave their cooperation towards this remarkable event. A special thank you goes to Mr Sheshan Abeysekara for introducing Mr. Gamage to the school community, which made this inspiring workshop possible. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to the dynamic PROMWEB team for their invaluable support in media coverage.
The event marked the resurgence of creative thinking at Trinity College Kandy.
