Exploring the Future of AI: Trinity College Attends National AI Expo 2025

A student delegation from Trinity College, Kandy took part in the National AI Expo & Conference 2025, held from 29 to 30 September at the Monarch Imperial, Colombo. Organised by the Ministry of Digital Economy and ICTA in collaboration with SLT‑MOBITEL, with SLASSCOM as ecosystem partner, the Expo was themed “In Pursuit of AI” and brought together students, educators, researchers, and industry leaders from across the country.

Representing Trinity were Master Nahidh Naseem, Master Disalana Jayasooriya, Master Wosanda Malaviarachchi, Master Chirath Jayasinghe and Master Gayanuka Bambaragama, accompanied by Mr Wasana Dissanayake (Coordinator, Trinity College Co-Curricular Enrichment Initiative – TCCEI) and Mr Anuruddha Ekanayake (College IT Manager). The event served as a national platform to explore the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence across education, business, healthcare, governance, and innovation. Participants had the opportunity to engage in keynote sessions, panel discussions, and an extensive exhibition showcasing both local and global AI applications.

The Expo also marked the official announcement of a National AI Fund, aimed at supporting Sri Lanka’s development of responsible and inclusive AI initiatives. For Trinity’s students, the event proved to be both informative and inspiring. Master Nahidh Naseem shared, “The AI Expo showed me how fast technology is moving and gave me ideas for future projects in AI and IoT.” Master Disalana Jayasooriya expressed, “I enjoyed hearing from industry leaders about real applications of AI – it motivated me to think about innovation in Sri Lanka.” Master Chirath Jayasinghe noted, “The panel on AI and ethics made me reflect on the responsibility we have as future technologists.” Master Gayanuka Perera added, “Exploring the exhibition booths gave me hands-on insights into AI products and solutions being developed locally.”

The College also takes pride in acknowledging the presence of Dr Romesh Ranawana, an Old Boy of Trinity College, who served as one of the featured panelists at the event. Dr Ranawana, Group Chief Analytics and AI Officer at Dialog Axiata PLC, addressed the need for deeper localisation in AI adoption, both linguistically and culturally. His remarks underscored the broader importance of inclusive, locally grounded AI development.

Mr Wasana Dissanayake, Coordinator of the TCCEI, shared his reflections on the event. He said the National AI Conference and Exhibition was “a refreshing and novel experience for the school education system. The keynote speeches and panel discussions related to multifaceted applications of AI, AI governance and ethical usage, AI literacy and readiness, and especially the learnings from Singapore and India on the importance of implementing an AI education policy framework were thought-provoking as they have highlighted the importance of introducing AI as a basic literary skill starting from primary education levels. The experience gained at Expo will definitely assist us to uplift the AI initiatives at Trinity College.”

Trinity College is proud to have taken part in this important national event, which aligns with its vision of preparing students to think critically, innovate responsibly, and contribute meaningfully to Sri Lanka’s digital future. Participation in platforms such as the AI Expo reflects the College’s growing commitment to understanding the evolving landscape of Artificial Intelligence and exploring ways in which AI tools can enhance teaching, learning, and educational innovation. The College also extends its sincere gratitude to the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, the College Executive Council, and SLT-MOBITEL for granting this valuable opportunity, whose support and encouragement enabled Trinity’s young learners to gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies, broaden their horizons, and carry forward the vision of becoming future-ready leaders in a rapidly evolving digital world.
