The Kindergarten Section of Trinity College, Kandy, hosted its third biennial Handwork Exhibition, ‘Sparkles of Creativity’, on 5 August 2026. The exhibition celebrated the creativity, imagination and artistic talents of the young learners of Grade 1 and 2, providing them with an opportunity to showcase the skills they had developed throughout the year.
The event was graced by Mrs Caroline Gnanapragasam, a former teacher of the section, as the Chief Guest. Parents, teachers, College officials, including the Principal, and well-wishers attended the exhibition and appreciated the display of artwork and handcrafted creations.
Each exhibit reflected the enthusiasm, patience and creativity of the children. Through a variety of arts and crafts projects completed during their Handwork lessons, the students demonstrated not only their artistic abilities, but also their fine motor skills, imagination and confidence. Interactive displays further enhanced the experience, allowing visitors to engage with the exhibits while appreciating the skills and creativity of the young learners. Each display also reflected connections between the students’ work and what they were learning across different subjects. Some classes also designed projects featuring family portraits and aspects of their personal lives.
The exhibition highlighted the dedication of the teaching staff, who carefully guided and encouraged each child throughout the creative process. It also demonstrated the importance of providing children with opportunities to express themselves through art while developing creativity, critical thinking and self-confidence from an early age.
The Kindergarten Section extends its sincere gratitude to Mrs C. P. K. De Tissera, Headmistress of the Junior School, and Mrs H. J. Mulleriyawa, Junior School Coordinator, for their guidance and support in organising the exhibition.
Special appreciation is also extended to the Grade Heads of Grade 1 and 2, Mrs S. D. D. Bandara and Mrs L. V. Jayasundara, respectively, for their leadership and encouragement. Heartfelt thanks are also due to the Faculty Heads of Handwork, Mrs Y. Dassanayaka and Miss P. Peiris, whose dedication and commitment played an important role in organising the event. The parents of the students are also thanked for their support behind the scenes.
‘Sparkles of Creativity’ was more than an exhibition. It provided the children with an opportunity to share their creativity and practical skills with the wider College community. The event reflected the Kindergarten Section’s commitment to nurturing creativity, developing practical skills and encouraging a lifelong interest in learning through artistic expression.
