The Junior School of Trinity College, Kandy opened a new play area for its Kindergarten students on 5 August 2026, providing them with a safe and engaging space to learn, explore and develop through play. The new facility, which includes a range of play equipment, was officially declared open by the Principal, Very Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, following a prayer of blessing.
The opening was attended by the Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Sanjaya Gamage, Vice Principal Mr Krishanthan Antonydas, Co-Vice Principal Mr Ananda Marasinghe, Finance Manager Mr Rukshan Galanga, Headmistress of the Junior School Mrs Kumari De Tissera, Designate Headmistress Mrs Himali Mulleriyawa, Grade 1 Head Mrs Sanjeewani Bandara, Grade 2 Head Mrs Lakdini Jayasundara, Kindergarten class teachers and Kindergarten students.
The new play area has been designed to support learning through play while providing opportunities for children to develop their cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills. The facility includes swings, slides, climbing frames, a seesaw and a tyre tunnel, offering the Kindergarten students a variety of ways to play and interact with one another.
Following the blessing and the official opening, the Kindergarten students were the first to use the new facility. Their enthusiasm and enjoyment added to the significance of the occasion as they explored the play area for the first time.
The addition of the new play area is another step towards providing a supportive and enjoyable learning environment for the youngest students of Trinity College, Kandy. It reflects the College’s continued commitment to creating spaces that support children’s development both inside and outside the classroom.
